Curator’s statement

Despite going several times when I was young, London was still on top of my list of places I wanted to visit. Like many, I had heard of the the multitude of must-go restaurants, amazing art museums, lush parks and history, and I wanted to see it all again as an adult. Needless to say, the city exceeded my (high) expectations to the point where I found myself engaging in some very touristic sightseeing, which I hadn't done in years. Let's deep dive into this timeless wonder.

Things to do in London

The British Museum is a public museum in London, England.

Tate Modern and Tate Britain: The Former focuses on exhibitions of international modern and contemporary art, the latter on British art from 1500 to the present day. Both excellent.

The Photographer's Gallery: Located in the heart of Central London, by Soho, this gallery exhibits a curation of amazing photography from international artists.

British Museum: An institution displaying artifacts from around the globe.

Victoria and Albert Museum: The V&A is the world's largest museum of applied arts, decorative arts and design with a permanent collection of almost 3 million objects.

Saatchi Gallery: Located in dreamy Chelsea, this gallery holds contemporary art exhibitions showcasing the work of emerging artists. The Civilization exhibit runs until Sept. 2023 and is a must-see.

Westminster Abbey: As I walked by, I thought, why not? The inside is spectacular. It is also worth paying five extra pounds to access the Queen's Diamond Jubilee gallery and enjoy an amazing view of the abbey.

St James Park: If you are heading to Buckingham Palace after Westminster, walk through St James Park sit for a bit. This park is wonderful.

Liberty London: The most charming department store with an incredible selection of skin care brands among others. Also home to the famous floral print "Liberty".

De Gournay: Possibly the most beautiful place to look at wallpaper (and shop, if you can.)

Day trips

Afternoon tea at Petersham Nurseries, Richmond. Located about 50-min west of London, this lovely and charming nursery allow its visitors to enjoy and afternoon tea in their teahouse. A very romantic break from the city.

Places to eat & drink in London

Sweetings Restaurant is an original Victorian Fish and Oyster bar located at the heart of the City of London.

St. John (Smithfield): Famous for a reason, this restaurant opened in 1994 might be one of my favorite ever. In the perfectly designed dinning room, you will enjoy "nose to tail" dishes year round.

Kiln: Excellent Thai food spot, perfect for solo dining. If you do not book in advance, expect a bit of a wait.

Brat: It is not by accident that Chef Tomos Parry got a Michelin star only six months after opening. There you can enjoy Basque inspired food cooked on wood fired ovens and grills.

Gunpowder: There is no shortage of excellent Indian restaurants in London. Gunpowder is one of them and has three locations around the city.

Compton Arms: Casual local pub serving excellent small bites and drinks in North London.

Sweetings: A City Of London institution serving great seafood from Monday to Friday at lunchtime.

Mangal 2: Excellent modern Turkish restaurant in Dalston (East London).

The Lamb and Flag, Covent Garden: Historic and iconic pub that will offer its visitors a very British experience.
