Curator’s statement
Denmark is one of my favorite countries and cultures in the entire world. You cannot truly experience Denmark and leave without falling in love with it. I lived in Denmark for a little over a year and I lived in a suburb of Copenhagen for six months. My suggestions and recommendations might not be the trendiest, or the most luxe, but they will truly immerse you in Danish culture. Denmark is the place of “Hygge” which really just equals being present and enjoying the moment and those around you. If you look up the translation it will say “cozy”, but it truly is a feeling that cannot be translated. Copenhagen is the most popular city as it is the capital, so it is the perfect place to start your Danish journey.

Things to do in Copenhagen
Nyhavn
Stroll along the iconic waterfront district, featured on every Danish postcard. The colorful buildings and lively atmosphere are a visual delight.
Amalienborg
Explore the regal beauty of the queen's palace and don't forget to step inside the magnificent church nearby, a true architectural gem.
Rosenborg Slot
Located right in Copenhagen's core, this castle is a marvel. Even if you're short on time, a walk through its grounds is a must.
Vor Frelser Kirke
What makes this church special is the winding climb up the spire. The view from the city at the top is breathtaking.
Vor Frue’s Kirke
Admire the incredible sculptures by Thorvaldsen, one of Denmark's most renowned artists. The original statues of Christ and the twelve apostles by Thorvaldsen are displayed in this church.
Tivoli Gardens
This amusement park, the third oldest in the world, promises fun for kids and adults alike. Don't be scared off if you are not an amusement park fan. Beyond the rides, the gardens are a serene escape, dotted with charming shops. Be sure to explore the Christmas shop – my personal favorite.
The Little Mermaid Statue
While petite in stature, this statue carries immense significance, paying homage to Hans Christian Andersen's story.
Copenhagen Zoo
This is one of my favorite zoos; it's not huge, but it is unique and so fun. There are two sides you have to cross under the street, so don't miss both!
Stroget
This bustling walking street in the heart of downtown Copenhagen is the epitome of Danish culture. Perfect for shopping and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere.
Day Trips
Frederiksborg Slot
Explore this massive and breathtaking castle, home to the original Carl Bloch paintings. Don't forget to visit the charming cafe just outside for a taste of authentic Danish cuisine, including "Frikadeller."
Kronborg Slot
Known as Hamlet's castle, this gem in Helsingor is a trip worth making.
For an even richer experience, consider leaving the city to explore the enchanting Danish countryside. In the summer, the yellow fields are spectacular and the strawberries are divine. I hope to submit more guides with ideas for the rest of Denmark or a road trip through Denmark; there is so much to see in this amazing country.
Places to eat & drink in Copenhagen
Familien Hansens Gamlehave: Indulge in traditional Danish cuisine, with "flaeskesteg" being a must-try dish. This is the traditional Danish Christmas dinner and such a huge part of their culture.
Vaffle Bageren Nyhavn: Savor delectable waffles and ice cream while soaking in one of Denmark's most iconic views in Nyhavn.
Paradis: This spot is only open in the summer, but their ice cream is delicious! You have to try GUFF on your ice cream at some point, even if it's at a different ice cream shop.
Frellsen: This chocolate shop has so many amazing options, but my favorite is their Hot Chocolate with ice (soft serve), it's such a fun and yummy combo.
Lagkage Huset: Known for their cakes, this is a chain bakery; I tend to recommend finding a local bakery over a chain, but their Flode Boller and delectable and I always love a strawberry cake or tart.
Hot Dog Carts: Street food lovers, treat yourself to a "Fransk Hot Dog" from one of the carts. This is a unique Danish thing and' so yummy (and I hate hot dogs). Remoulade is a Danish sauce that most people get on their frank hot dogs.
Baresso: For a coffee fix, Baresso is the place to be. Their frozen drinks are a delightful refreshment. Their hot chocolate is super unique and fun too; they give you pure chocolate to melt in your milk.
