Beyond the more famous destinations like Santorini, Mykonos and Crete, you will find Naxos — a charming island that will capture your heart and just may be the best Greek island you didn't know about. With beautiful beaches, fresh and local cuisine, breathtaking views and mind-blowing ancient ruins, it is no wonder that Naxos is a favorite destination among travelers. If Greece is on your bucket list, make sure to add this mythical island to your itinerary and create memories to last a lifetime. It may be difficult to choose a Naxos, Greece hotel, as there are an abundance of dreamy luxury hotels and chic villas all with incredible views of the Agean. If you’re seeking a more private location, check out Stelida, Plaka or Agios Prokopios. In addition to being a beautiful island with plenty to see and do, it is also a great option for an affordable getaway. It is actually the best Greek island for affordable luxury hotels and villas. Although it was hard to narrow down, here are my picks for the best hotels in Naxos whether you're on a budget or want to splurge on unmatched luxury. Just be sure to book well in advance as these properties fill up quickly due to the intimate size of room offerings.

BEST HOTELS

Naxian Collection

Embrace the luxury of the island and experience authentic hospitality with breathtaking views of Naxos Town and beaches. The property is owned by a lovely couple who take pride in their island as well as their villas to create a sustainable stay and use as much of the island as possible in everything they do. A few things that make this place incredibly special are the organic gardens, free-range chicken coop, nearby olive trees, and vineyards that produce delicious ingredients for the property's menus. Each suite and villa are beautifully decorated with a modern style, natural elements, private pools, and are just steps from the sand. Also consider these villas if you're traveling with family!

Naxian On The Beach is a part of the Naxian Collection with the same attention to detail and luxury experience. This bohemian boutique hotel caters to couples to provide 10 gorgeous suites steps from Plaka Beach. You will receive breakfast in bed, complimentary sunbeds, dinners by the beach and privacy for the ultimate romantic experience.

If you’re looking for a more budget friendly option, or just love unique properties, check out Naxos Cave Suites. This hotel is an architectural wonder with its futuristic suites and modern decor. Located near several of the island’s best beaches, and the more quiet area of Stelida, each suite is very spacious with balconies overlooking the sea. The hotel also offers free pickup from the port or airport and a delicious breakfast.

This next hotel is out of a dream, with its private infinity pools overlooking the sea and Santorini style architecture. Did I mention the best part…it’s quite budget friendly, sigh. The only downside to this hotel is that once you step out onto your private veranda, you may not want to leave. Anna Platanou Suites is a few miles from Parikia, the nearest town. Enjoy the stylish pool bar and relax on the daybeds for the ultimate relaxing experience.

Villa Marandi Luxury Suites is a 5-star luxury boutique hotel located directly on the beach in Stelida with incredible views of the Agean. This property welcomes romantics as well as families who want a quieter, more peaceful setting. The hotel offers a decadent homemade breakfast, large verandas, and a friendly atmosphere to feel at home and at peace.

Located in Agios Prokopios, 18 Grapes Hotel is one of the more popular hotels in the area, and for good reason. This luxury boutique hotel likes to describe itself as refreshing, yet sophisticated like a fine wine. Featuring a stunning pool with sea views and calming minimalist suites, this property would be a great option for family travel as there are connecting suites available as well as a babysitting service.

Naxian Utopia is just that, Utopia. This contemporary and sustainable luxury hotel built on a rocky hill, offers elegant suites and villas, each with their own private pool and magnificent views, that will make you feel like royalty. The property has won countless awards and takes pride in spoiling their guests. Agios Prokopios beach is just a short walk away , and I recommend a visit to their wellness spa to immerse yourself in complete tranquility.

Galaxy Hotel is a stunning property and being one of the larger hotels on the island, it offers a variety of rooms with a balcony or patio to enjoy the sea views and just steps from St. George Beach and Naxos Town. Relax at the large pool with a delicious cocktail from their pool bar and immerse yourself in the Greek lifestyle with the friendly staff and the decadent local cuisine available.

Naxos Island Hotel is a 5-star boutique hotel that is just a few meters from Agios Prokopios Beach. The best part…it has a gorgeous rooftop pool and restaurant with panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. Oh, and the hotel staff greet you with a welcome drink, the perfect start to a fairytale vacation. Each room has features replicating the Naxos villages and includes an outdoor space with a view. There are two spas, a gym, and salon to make sure all of your pampering needs are met.

For those that appreciate sustainability, Elaiolithos luxury green hotel is a fantastic option. Not only is it an enchanting stay, but you can rest at ease knowing that every concept of the hotel has true eco-friendly thought behind it. With beautiful views and a friendly atmosphere, you will find comfort in your spacious luxury suite and immerse yourself in the natural surroundings.

Things to do in Naxos

Naxos Greece coastline with blue waters.

Beaches

Naxos is known for its abundant beaches, which are some of the most beautiful in the Aegean Sea. Plaka, Agios Prokopios, Mikri Vigla, Aliko, St. George and Sahara are some of the best in Naxos with long, white, sandy beaches that pair perfectly with a book, sun hat and a cocktail. If you're feeling adventurous and are up for an excursion away from your dreamy Naxos, Greece hotel, try sailing, windsurfing or scuba diving and enjoy the crystal clear turquoise waters.

Historical sites

Being the hometown of Zeus, there is no shortage of incredible archeological sites. Hiking the famous Mount Zas (named after the mythical King of Gods) is a wonder of its own. Portara at the Temple of Apollo, is the most well-known. Be sure to visit at sunset for a view that will leave you speechless. Kastro is a well-preserved 13th century castle built by the Venetians and is also a must see. Tip-make sure to check out the shops below the castle! Demeter Temple, Kouros of Melanes, Panagia Drossiani Church, the Monastery of Fotodotis, Bazeos Tower and Kalamitsia Monastery, are also some incredible sites to see.

Shopping

There are many locally owned shops on Naxos, but the island's Hora, is the best place to look for local crafts and foods. You will find the most delicious locally grown olive oil, potatoes, cheeses and wine while also being introduced to hand-made fabrics and jewelry. And if you're a shoe lover like me, you must go to Pagonis Greek Sandals, where you can buy the finest hand-made sandals in the Cyclades.

Day trip

Athens is only about a 4 hour ferry ride away for the perfect day trip!
