Oahu, the third-largest Hawai'ian island, is famous for its capital city Honolulu, historic Pearl Harbor, the renowned surf of the North Shore and attractions like Diamond Head and Hanauma Bay. Its mix of cultural heritage, natural beauty and historical landmarks makes it a popular destination. But be sure to allow time to leave Honolulu to explore the island's diverse landscapes — from lush rainforests and scenic coastlines to rural towns and secluded Oahu beaches — providing a more immersive experience of its natural wonders.

Oahu, also known as “The Gathering Place,” boasts some of the most stunning beaches in Hawai'i, from the soft, golden sands to the clear, turquoise waters. They offer picturesque views of the ocean, surrounding landscapes and landmarks like Diamond Head or the Mokulua Islands. Whether you are looking for water or simply to relax, these beaches offer a wide range of activities.
Some of these beaches, such as Hanauma Bay and Turtle Bay Beach, offer opportunities to see marine life up close. Many of these beaches hold cultural significance for the local community and the Hawaiian people. They are cherished not only for their natural beauty but also for their historical and cultural importance, adding depth and meaning to the visitor experience.
Several beaches on Oahu offer wheelchair accessibility in degrees, including Waikiki Beach, Anauma Bay, Kuhio Beach Park, Ala Moana Beach Park, Kualoa Regional Park and Pokai Bay Beach Park. It’s always a good idea to inquire before heading out.
Turtle Bay Beach
Turtle Bay Beach, located on the North Shore of Oahu, is known for its pristine golden sands, clear turquoise waters and lush coastal scenery. The beach offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and is backed by the iconic Turtle Bay Resort, which provides amenities such as kayaking, horseback riding, several dining options, beautiful sunsets and the Jamie O’ Brien Surf Experience.
The name “Turtle Bay” comes from the frequent sightings of Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu) that can often be seen swimming in the area or basking on the shore. Whether you’re seeking relaxation or adventure, Turtle Bay Beach is a must-visit destination on Oahu’s North Shore.
Waikiki Beach
Located in Honolulu, Waikiki Beach is perhaps the most famous beach on Oahu. It offers a beautiful stretch of sand, gentle waves and stunning views of Diamond Head. Waikiki is known for its vibrant atmosphere, bustling with tourists, surfers and beachgoers enjoying the sun, shopping, dining and entertainment options along the beachfront.
Halekulani Hotel is a renowned luxury hotel located in the Waikiki area of Honolulu. Its name, which means “House Befitting Heaven” in Hawaiian, reflects the elegance and sophistication associated with the property.
Less than an hour from Honolulu, the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina is a luxury resort located on the western shore of the island of Oahu. Situated in the serene Ko Olina area, the resort offers a secluded and picturesque setting, away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, yet still conveniently accessible to various attractions on the island.

Situated on the Windward Coast of Oahu, Lanikai Beach is renowned for its pristine white sand, crystal-clear turquoise waters and breathtaking views of the offshore Mokulua Islands. It’s a popular spot for swimming, kayaking and snorkeling, offering a tranquil and picturesque setting away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki.
Hanauma Bay
As a protected marine sanctuary and nature preserve, Hanauma Bay is one of the top snorkeling destinations on Oahu. It boasts crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs and a diverse array of marine life, making it an ideal spot for snorkelers of all skill levels. Due to its popularity, Hanauma Bay can get crowded, so it’s advisable to arrive early to secure a parking spot and avoid long lines.
Kailua Beach
Kailua Beach, on the Windward Coast, is renowned for its powdery white sand, turquoise waters and gentle breezes. It offers excellent swimming, kayaking and windsurfing conditions, as well as stunning views of the nearby Mokulua Islands.
