Curator’s statement
Greece has been my top 3 dream destinations for as long as I can remember. As a vegan 'foodie' it can be difficult to have a full experience of culture, however I found Greece to be filled with wonderful cuisine and libations for every variety of traveler without feeling like you may be missing out. Crete, Santorini and Athens were welcoming and just waiting for a visit. One thing you will never be in Greece is hungry.

Day 1: Arrive in Crete
We chose Chania as our hub, although we rented a car to visit the island during the day. Arriving early evening, we were tired and hungry. Staying close to the touristy harbor area was great for our expectations to eat and have a cocktail in the evening. We arrived early evening and decided to eat and go to bed early so we could enjoy our next full day.
Day 2: Manousakis Winery
We love and will travel for wine! Our journey took us to Manousakis Winery, a lovely organic boutique winery with great menu options in a wonderfully relaxing location. Vegan options are labeled and plentiful.
After a few hours of country, we drove back to Chania to walk out to the old Venetian harbor lighthouse, which is a medium-level stroll (depending on the weather) to take some lovely photos out at sea.
I suggest Zepos for dinner after watching the sunset around the corner. A lovely regular menu as well as an extensive vegan menu while watching the moon on the water.
Day 3: Bara Piato
You are likely to be leaving before dinner, but I suggest lunch at a wonderful restaurant in a tiny alley off the square called Bara Piato. You can relax and regroup here before another day of travel. It is small, family-owned, vegan-friendly and doesn't even have a website. I soaked up the sun while enjoying my gyro spiced mushroom pita with a local beer.
Day 4: Arrival in Santorini
Arriving in Santorini, we drove straight to Oia, as the hour was getting late. I will also suggest an automatic, as anyone not used to driving stick on mountains will have an issue. Staying at one of the few smaller family-owned hotels of Chelidona, sitting above the picturesque and famed caldera was a treasure. At the end of a busy plaza down the lower room area, we looked upon in awe that this could be real.
Note: Please tip these valets well because the fish would have wonderful outfits if I tried to carry luggage!
Day 5: Anniversary Day for Me!
In the daytime, we drove around to the other side of the island to a lovely winery overlooking the opposite side of the caldera called Venetsanos Winery in Thira.
I wanted a nice dinner with a view! Well, I found one in Sphinx. It was so good, we went back the next day. You can top that off with some gelato at Solo Gelato with three to four vegan options.
Day 6: Departure
Before leaving for the Santorini airport, we had one last stop at Domaine Sigalas.
Athens was our last stop and of course we hit the famed Acropolis. Have a lovely evening dinner looking at the lit version at Roof Garden Restaurant on the 10th floor of the Electra Hotel.
