Tips for Travelers

  • Book your hotel and restaurant reservations in advance, especially if you're traveling during peak season.

  • Pack comfortable shoes, as you'll be doing a lot of walking.

  • Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the beauty of Florence.

  • Get off the beaten path. Don't be afraid to wander away from the main tourist areas. You'll be surprised at the hidden gems you'll find.

  • Talk to the locals. One of the best ways to learn about a city is to talk to the people who live there. Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with a local barista or shopkeeper.

  • Eat where the locals eat. Avoid tourist traps and opt for restaurants that are frequented by locals. You can usually spot these restaurants by the fact that they have no menu outside and are filled with Italian speakers.

  • Don't be afraid to try new things. Italian cuisine is so much more than just pizza and pasta. Be sure to try some of the regional specialties, such as bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine steak) and pappa al pomodoro (Tuscan bread and tomato soup).

  • Take your time. Florence is a city to be savored. Don't rush from one attraction to the next. Take your time to wander the streets, soak up the atmosphere, and people-watch.
