Curator’s statement

Phoenix, Sedona and Tucson stand out as top choices to visit in Arizona. But, I know another smaller town that has big outdoor fun! Page, AZ is a small town in Northern Arizona and is a beautiful place to visit. With close proximity to the Grand Canyon and so many other incredible slot canyons and rivers located in the town, Page has people from all over visiting.

Things to do in Page, Arizona

Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon

A Navajo tour guide will lead you through one of the most popular slot canyons in Arizona. The canyon is divided into Upper and Lower parts. I took a 90-minute tour of Upper Antelope Canyon and highly recommend it. Tse Bighanilini Tours is a great operator. Because the canyons are on Navajo land, a local guide is required to visit. The local guides are informative and tell of the Navajo history and the formation of the canyons. Depending on the time of day, the light coming in through the slots create amazing colors against the rocks. The best part is that the guides know the best camera angles and best spots in the canyon to get the perfect insta pic!

Guided UTV Tour

One of the highlights of our Page trip was a guided UTV tour. This particular tour was a 3-hour off-road adventure. We sped through the desert in open-air jeep-like vehicles. We explored different parts of Antelope Canyon and the Colorado River that are more difficult to reach. We used Lake Powell Vacations. The guides are super friendly and will tailor the tour to your requests. Bottles of water are provided and pictures and videos are taken by the guides.

Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is located within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and is one of the most visited places in the Canyon. It is a 1.5 mile round-trip walk to the overlook from the parking area. The trail is also wheelchair-accessible. Sunset is a popular time to visit the Bend. Many people will combine this visit with the Antelope Canyon. Hiking is the easiest way to visit, but helicopter rides and kayak tours are also available. We visited in late October and still needed to bring water and sun protection.

Glen Canyon Recreation Area

Glen Canyon Recreational Area makes up more than 1.25 million acres in northern Arizona and southeastern Utah. On my visit, I walked across the historic pedestrian Navajo Bridge. This bridge crosses the Colorado River. I was lucky enough to spot three endangered California Condors that sometimes hang out at the bridge! A visitor center is located at the Navajo Bridge. Locals also sell Native American crafts on the other side of the bridge.

Antelope Canyon Boat Tour

We explored both Lake Powell and Antelope Canyon by water! Antelope point marina at Lake Powell offers 45-minute boat tours around Antelope Canyon. The pontoon-like boat is covered up top and is open on the sides. The boat is able to get closer to the canyon and the different colored rock layers are visible. The sunlight hitting the sandstone of the canyon brings out gorgeous orange hues.

Day Trips

Zion National Park

We used our National Parks Pass and visited Zion National Park. Located in southwestern Utah, Zion is a great day trip from Page. Visitors are driven to different stops around the park on a tram. We saw many people prepared to hike The Narrows in the park. It is one of the most popular hikes and involves wading through the Virgin River. Caution should be taken on this particular hike as flash floods may occur. Pictures do not do justice to the grandness and beauty of the park. The reddish and tan-colored layers of the canyon rock should truly be seen in person!

Places to Eat & Drink in Page, Arizona

Grand Canyon Brewery Pretzel

Hot N Sweet Coffee and Donut Shop

We stopped here every morning for both coffee and donuts. The two favorite kinds of donuts are cinnamon rolls and chocolate. They also serve breakfast burritos and different coffee drinks.

Sunset 89

Sunset 89 is a newer Page restaurant. It has incredible views of Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam. It is open 7 days a week, serving lunch and dinner. We ate some yummy rice and noodle bowls for dinner. Short ribs and chicken can be added to the bowls.

Grand Canyon Brewing & Distillery

We ate lunch here twice! This location is fairly new and is located in an old Page firehouse. Local beers are served and the brewery will be set up. We enjoyed the bone-in chicken wings, the house-made chili and the classic mac and cheese.

Wild Thyme Cafe

On our way to Zion National Park, we stopped here for breakfast. It is located in Kanab, Utah. They have an organic garden on site and they have a separate greenhouse. I enjoyed a breakfast burrito that was filled with hash browns and sausage.
