Day 1: Arrive in Todos Santos

My husband and I flew into San Jose del Cabo International Airport (SJD), rented a car and set off for our hotel. I highly recommend renting a car and driving during daylight, as there aren’t many streetlights or large towns between Cabo and Todos Santos. We arrived at the stunning, one-of-a-kind Bunk House Property, Hotel San Cristobal, where we quickly discovered that all good things are indeed found at the end of a dirt road.

Upon check-in, we were welcomed with a personalized note and a thoughtful amenity. The rooms are spacious, bright and impeccably clean, each featuring beautiful patios that open to views of the ocean, mountains or pool. With only 32 rooms and a staff-to-guest ratio of two to one, the service is exceptional. This adults-only property requires that children be at least 15 years old. We enjoyed our first-level Ocean King room, which included a generous patio complete with a hammock.

Our first day was blissfully spent lounging by the pool, alternating between refreshing dips in the ocean and pool, reading and playing card games. We capped off our first night with a magnificent dinner at Benno, which was a true culinary highlight.

Day 2: Whale watching

A group of people enjoying a meal together at a beachside table.

On the second morning, we awoke early for a whale-watching trip arranged by the staff, complete with a to-go breakfast of homemade burritos and coffee. It was whale season, and we were fortunate enough to get close enough to touch these majestic creatures — a truly once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Upon returning from our adventure, we were treated to a poolside extravaganza featuring freshly caught and prepared tuna — unlike anything we had ever tasted before.

Next on our itinerary was The Green Room, a sunset bar that requires reservations. We enjoyed drinks and appetizers while watching the sun dip below the horizon. This picturesque spot is also home to the beautiful Villa Santa Cruz, featuring luxurious oceanfront tents, bungalows and villas. After soaking in the sunset, we headed to Dum for dinner — a vibrant and uniquely Bohemian setting adorned with lanterns, candles and twinkling lights strung among the trees. We opted for the tasting menu, which was worth every penny and allowed us to savor a wide array of creative dishes. Just a tip: bring warm clothes or a blanket from the hotel, as the low-lying valley can get a bit chilly at night.

Day 3: Last day

One of the highlights of our trip was the visually stunning Oystera. We enjoyed Sunday brunch in the enchanting courtyard of this old sugar mill turned bar and restaurant. It didn’t disappoint — the atmosphere was an Instagram lover's dream, complete with fresh seafood and live music, making it a beloved spot among the locals of Todos Santos.

Need to know

A car is absolutely essential for a stay in Todos Santos. During my visit, I missed out on one additional hotel, Paradero, and I recently discovered that a new in-town option has opened since then, offering an old-world luxury, high-end boutique experience. Hotel Todos Santos will definitely be on my list for my next visit!
