A Perfect Artsy Saturday
10am
Brunch at San Angel Inn. Make sure to make reservations in advance for a spot in the garden. San Angel Inn is the place to be on the weekends for brunch. Here you will find lots of families out together enjoying brunch. The garden is beautiful and the food cannot be beaten.
11:30am
Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo House-Studio Museum: Less than a 5 min walk away from brunch is the Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo House. This is a great place to explore Mexican architecture and learn more about Diego & Frida. The two houses are connected by an iconic bridge you can walk across when visiting.
1pm
El Bazar Sabado. This is one of my favorite markets in Mexico City and it's only open on Saturdays! A few blocks from the Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo house is the Saturday Art Bazar in San Angel. The Bazar expands throughout the parks in San Angel with painters displaying their pieces. You can find some really nice pieces here. Leave time to wander through the area, especially through the parks.
2pm
After checking out the Bazar hop in an Uber and head over to Coyoacán for lunch. There are plenty of great restaurants in the area or head to the Mercado for a local lunch in the market. There are a bunch of delicious food stalls. Wander through the market and see what looks best for you!
3pm
Frida Kahlo House & Museum: Next up is Casa Azul, probably one of the most famous places in Mexico City. This is the house that Frida Khalo grew up in. Only a few blocks from the center of Coyoacán you can spend an hour or two here learning more about Frida and see the house she grew up in. Make sure to get tickets in advance! As of 2022, you could not buy tickets in person
4 pm
Explore Coyoacán - Make sure you make it to the center of town, which has a few parks, music, local artists, and the San Juan Bautista Church & Ex-Convent. This is a great neighborhood to wander the streets. It's beautiful and very artsy, so you can't go wrong. Stop for churros or other local foods on the streets.
Other things to do nearby if you have more time:
UNAM Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC) - not far from San Angel & Coyoacán is the University Contemporary Art. Take a look at their website ahead of time to see what exhibits are showing when you're visiting. It's also a great area to walk around.
UNAM Botanical Gardens - tired and overwhelmed by the city. Head out to the UNAM Botanical Gardens for an escape from the city
