Day 1: Maumee State Park

A man carrying a young child on his shoulders in a grassy area with a path.

Toledo is an extremely family-friendly area. While here, there is the option for many day trips and excursions to lower Michigan and Ohio. On day one, you'll check in to your hotel and drop off your bags before heading on over to Maumee State Park. The park has beach access, as well as a delightful park for littles. There is also a nature trail loop that kids and parents alike will enjoy. At the state park, there is a pristine golf course as well that you could test out. If you like, you can even camp in the park. The park has great walking and biking trails, too. After taking in the views and playing at the park, head over to Water's Edge Restaurant for dinner before you settle down for the night.

Day 2: Toledo and Perrysburg

A tender moment of a child and adult feeding a deer, bridging nature and nurture at a zoo.

On day two, you'll spend the day exploring Toledo and Perrysburg. Check out the famous Toledo-Lucas County library which has the most incredible kids' section I have ever seen. You can pop on by a local candy shop afterwards on your way to the Toledo Zoo. The Toledo Zoo is amazing. It has everything from polar bears to red pandas. The train will take you around the cheetahs and then you can visit the aviary where birds whizz past your heads. During the summer, the kids can cool off at the splash pad right there at the zoo or play in the creek or the park.

After the zoo, you'll head to Perrysburg for a late lunch at Fifth Street Pub, which has the absolute best pizza and wings in town. If you're in town on a Thursday during the summer, you'll be able to swing by the local farmers market set up on Center Street. If not, the permanent shops along Center Street are still unique and great to check out after your meal.

Day 3: Cedar Point Amusement Park

Riders crest the peak of a roller coaster, suspended in a moment of exhilarating anticipation.

Today you'll drive over to Sandusky and check out the Cedar Point Amusement Park with the largest roller coaster in the US. Grab breakfast along the way at Sandusky Bay Pancake House before hitting up the park for a day of fun. The park is great for all ages and people, with fun for the whole fam.

Day 4: University of Michigan, St. Joseph or South Haven

A stone archway leads to a tranquil courtyard, adorned with intricate stonework and lanterns.

You may also want to head up to Ann Arbor for a day to check out the University of Michigan campus as well as the botanical gardens.

Or you may head out to the west coast and stop by St. Joseph or South Haven for a beautiful day at the beach if you're just passing through on a road trip.
