Scottsdale is one of those cities that you can visit again and again and still be surprised. It's perfectly suited to family trips, weekends away with friends or that couple's vacation you've been wanting to take. With its celebration of art, culture and the classic desert scenery, it's a place I've personally returned to several times and still want more! Day 1: Walking tour & restaurants

Scottsdale is a quick trip from Phoenix Sky Harbor airport, clocking in at just a 15-minute drive. Once you check into your hotel, you'll want to stretch those legs. There are plenty of can't-miss photo ops in Old Town Scottsdale, but some of the most iconic are the "Welcome to Old Town Scottsdale" sign in front of the chamber of commerce and Ed Mell's Jack Knife sculpture. Check out the self-guided walking tour to get a great sense of place.

If waterfront walking is more your style, I'd recommend the Phoenix Canals. They're part of a larger canal system that stretches over 130 miles, but no need to go that far! Part of it runs right through Scottsdale, giving you opportunities to stop off at bars and restaurants on the way.

Speaking of which, you've probably worked up an appetite by now. One of my favorite places to dine in Old Town Scottsdale is Hula's Modern Tiki. They have a generous happy hour — get the Hilo Sliders to replenish your energy.

After heading back to your hotel for a dip in the pool and to get refreshed for a night out, you have plenty of dining options to choose from. Los Olivos Mexican Patio is a long-running family restaurant for Sonoran cuisine, or check out The House Brasserie to indulge in a great historical setting.

Day 2: Hiking & art galleries

For your second day in Old Town Scottsdale, you'll want to see nature's attractions! Camelback Mountain is an iconic place near Old Town that offers a range of easy but enjoyable hikes, like the Ramada Loop or Bobby's Rock. In the mood for something more strenuous? The Summit Trail will take you the top for those scenic views. The Desert Botanical Garden or kayaking on the Lower Salt River are also great options to experience the natural surroundings of Scottsdale.

Once you're back in Old Town, it's time to dive in to Scottsdale's incredible arts scene. There are endless art galleries to choose from, and if you're in town on a Thursday night, you'll get to experience the free ArtWalk. Many galleries open their doors and offer refreshments, music and a themed exhibition with different collections.

Finish off your second day in Old Town Scottsdale with dinner at Sel. They offer a three- or five-course chef's tasting menu, and they have a vegetarian tasting menu as well!

Head to Canal Club, Outrider Rooftop or Rusty Spur Saloon for a great evening out. Canal Club offers craft cocktails and a Caribbean atmosphere, Outrider Rooftop is THE place to score views of Camelback Mountain and Rusty Spur Saloon is where you'll catch live music and those iconic Western feels.

Day 3: Western Spirit Museum & souvenir shopping

On your third and final day, start off at Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West. This Smithsonian-affiliated museum is visually stunning, sitting right in Old Town, and truly captures all the cultures and communities that make up the West as we know it. On a recent visit, I saw stunning Native American-made jewelry, a photo exhibit on Mexican vaqueros and memorabilia from early casinos. It is interactive and a great place for all ages to enjoy!

After, take a stroll through Old Town for some unique souvenirs. The Merchantile houses a variety of local artisans, or stop at Vintage by Misty, Leela Market or the Scottsdale Farmers Market if you're in town on a Saturday from October to June.
