Curator’s statement
Rhodes is the island for you if you want to avoid the crazy crowds during the Greece high season. Filled with stunning beaches and historical sites, you will get a taste of all Greece has to offer. My husband and I stopped here during our honeymoon in a bid to beat the chaos of Athens, and now we can’t wait to return to Greece. Even during the summer, we were able to relax and explore at our leisure.

Things to do in Rhodes
Get up early and head into Old Town Rhodes. In addition to all the shops and restaurants, there are a few historic sites to visit.
Start your journey at the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes. When you arrive, purchase the ticket bundle so you get access to the other museums as well. This medieval castle captures the imagination with the grand statue garden and rooms filled with mosaics.
Next, head down the Street of the Knights and into the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes. Here you can learn a bit more about the history of the island. This doubles as an art museum with a large collection of sculptures. Don’t forget to check out the full list of sites and museums and get all Rhodes has to offer.
When you finish, take a stroll around the historic town and grab some gifts in the shops. Make a stop at the Kahal Shalom Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in Greece. It is a beautiful place and you can learn about the multicultural history of Rhodes.
Lindos will give you that all-white village experience you picture when thinking of Greece. Head here and make the walk up to see Lindos Castle and check out the ruins of Athena’s Temple as well. It feels like you are stepping into history, and the view is striking.
Greece has some amazing wine — make sure and book a tasting. There are also a couple of vineyards that host tastings as well.
Beach clubs are a great way to spend the afternoon. I recommend going to Naya Beach Club and the Elli Beach Club. Getting a reservation is a good idea, especially with a big group.
Places to eat & drink in Rhodes
Hermes Greek Grill House: Located in Old Rhodes Town, this welcoming family restaurant is worth a stop. Grab some lunch and a drink after wandering the shops and museums.
Mavrikos: At the entrance of Lindos with a great view, this place has incredible food with the awards to prove it. While you sit under the vines, order the rooster souvlaki and some wine or a beer. Trust me.
Kounna Beach & Resto Bar: This place is tucked away and overlooks a cove, the perfect spot for a sunset dinner. Everything on this menu looked great, but you can’t go wrong with the lamb.
Mimakos Taverna: Have dinner here for an authentic meal with a side of entertainment. You’ll want to keep returning.
Tamam: Here you can get some pasta and seafood and take a break from the meat. With rising popularity, expect a bit of a wait.
Limanaki Seafood Restaurant: Fresh seafood and a great view of the ocean are a perfect pair. This menu offers something for everyone for those who don’t eat seafood.
El Toro Steakhouse: If you are craving a great steak, make sure to check this place out.
Nomad: If you are looking for something a little more upscale, this is your spot. Here you will have a gastronomic experience in the heart of the medieval city.
Taverna Tsambikos: Another very authentic family-run restaurant that will not disappoint. Have a lovely evening and enjoy some wine.
