Curator’s statement

Seoul's café culture is amazing, unique and constantly evolving. They are so different from any other place I've been to and I can make a whole day of café hopping around the city. I particularly love the theming of all the places and how different they can be. Some cafés can be very popular, so there are a lot of lines, but the experience is worth every minute.

Cafés in Seoul

1. Cafe Onion Anguk

This is housed in a restored hanok (a traditional Korean house built in the 14th century) with traditional roof tiles and blends old-world charm with modern design. All the pastries are displayed like works of art and are almost too beautiful to eat. One of its signature dishes is the pandoro — a famous Italian-style bread covered in powered sugar. They also have an Injeolmi version of this, which is a Korean cake powder with the sugar piled on top to resemble a snow-capped mountain. Onion Anguk is constantly packed, so avoid peak hours to get a good spot to enjoy the moment

2. C. Through Cafe

This cafe is known for cream-filled cub pastries that look like tiny presents, but they also offer coffee and other desserts. Everything including the entrance is super Instagramable, including their famous Creamart coffees. The latte art is very delicate and intricate. There are so many unique desserts and they are all delicious. Popular with younger crowds.

3. Stylenanda Pink Hotel

This is much more than a cafe — it is a six-story pink palace that has a popular fashion store, photo studio and café in one. Stylenanda is a beauty and fashion brand that is very popular with Korean youths. The pool cafe is a cute concept with umbrellas and picture-taking shops. This is definitely a pink lovers dream.

4. London Bagel Museum

There are multiple locations across Seoul — it has taken the city by storm with freshly baked bagels, creative cream cheese flavors and a cute atmosphere. There are a wide variety of bagels and the cream cheese flavors are very interesting. They have truffle, basil, fig and their potato cheese bagel and spring onion cream cheese are especially popular. Some locations offer online ordering so you can skip the line, but it is still incredibly popular, so be prepared to wait.
