Curator’s statement

When I was 18, I decided to serve a mission for my Church. I was called to serve in the Bridgetown, Barbados mission. I had no idea where Barbados was, but within no time, I came to love the Island, the people and everything in between.

Things to do in Barbados

Basthsheba Cliffs and the Soup Bowl: Absolutely stunning view on the east coast of the Island. On the Atlantic side of the island, you'll find bigger waves, surfers and white sand beaches. You can also enjoy a drink by the warmer, naturally created pools close to the shore.

St. Lucy Parish: St. Lucy is the most northern parish on the Island of Barbados. Explore the Animal Flower Caves, visit Moontown for fresh-caught fish and see a lighthouse whose construction began in 1925!

Drive the Island: Barbados is only 21 miles by 14 miles long, so driving the island is well worth the time and the views! Find hidden beaches, places to eat and meet the friendly locals along the way.

Turtle Rescue: Barbados is a popular spot for both Leatherback and Hawkbill turtles. However, as the Island has increased in popularity, these hatchlings often become disoriented and do not survive their trip back to the sea. If visiting between July and October, contact the Barbados Sea Turtle Project to help the turtles on their journey back to the sea.

Holetown: On the west side of the island, Holetown offers a mix of shopping, food, beachfront access and a community of amazing homes on Sandy Lane. Drive around Holetown and discover the unique beauty of this side of the island!

Harrisons Cave: Harrison's Cave is full of natural beauty and a must-do while on the island. Explore the caves and see the monkeys and other wildlife on the reserve.

Swing by Rihannas Home: On the southern side of the island, visit the home where artist Rihanna grew up.

Places to eat & drink in Barbados

  • Cheffette - Technically fast food, but ONLY on Barbados and it’s so good. Opt for the roasted chicken sandwich or the Roti. Just typing this, I am craving some right now!

  • Maps - A total local spot and the BEST chicken and fries you can find on the island.

  • Just Grillin' - Has a variety of dishes, and I found the burgers here most similar to those in America.

  • Oistins Fish Market — Check out the fish market to buy your own fish or to get a dish of local flying fish and Cou-cou, their national dish.

  • R-Tic Gourmet Ice Cream - Delicious ice cream in Holetown.
