Curator’s statement

Bermuda had intrigued me for so long, and I only wish I had visited sooner! Bermuda is less than a two-hour flight from New York, but it feels like an entire world away. The crystal clear, turquoise water and pink sand beaches are simply stunning, and the quaint cities of Hamilton and St. George’s are adorable and full of history. There is just so much to explore, eat and enjoy in this little slice of heaven! Bermuda is absolutely perfect for a romantic getaway and its proximity makes it so easy to get there!

Things to do in Bermuda

A person stands on a sandy beach with the ocean in the background under a clear sky.
  • Hidden Beach: Horseshoe Bay is an incredibly popular beach that is stunning but can get quite crowded. For a more secluded experience, I prefer to grab a Rum Swizzle from the bar and make my way to the hidden beaches that lay just beyond! You can relax in the pink sand and cool off in the crystal waters without the crowds.

  • Jobson’s Cove: Go for a swim in the stunning turquoise water! This is another popular swimming spot, but offers plenty of private little coves. You’ll feel like you have the pink sands all to yourself! (You can also access Hidden Beach from here)

  • Snorkel a Shipwreck: This is the Bermuda Triangle, and there are so many shipwrecks to explore around Bermuda! Hop on a boat, jump in the water and get up close to one.

  • Tom Moore Caves: Take a hike through the jungle, stop to take a dip in the Blue Lagoon and finish it off with a swim in a super cool hidden cave!

  • Glass Beach: A quick stop as you tour the island to see a beautiful stretch of beach covered with smooth, colorful sea glass!

  • Shopping in Hamilton: Hamilton has so many great boutiques and little shops to explore. And if you’re looking for a pair of Bermuda shorts, TABS is the spot!

  • The Swizzle Inn: A Bermuda mainstay! Sip the original Rum Swizzle while you snack on Wahoo Nuggets.

  • Walk next door to Bailey’s Ice Cream for a homemade scoop!

  • Aurora: This is an upscale spot near Hamilton for delicious, fresh, local seafood! Sit outside right next to the harbor for amazing sunset views!

  • Portofino: You might not associate Italian food with Bermuda — but I’m not exaggerating when I say this was a meal I will think about for a very long time! I had one of the best seafood chowders here.

  • Wahoo's Bistro & Patio: Dine on fresh fish and Bermuda Lobster on this cute patio overlooking the harbor in St. George’s.

  • White Horse Pub and Restaurant: Stop into Bermuda’s oldest pub for some fish chowder and don’t miss out on the sizzling shrimp!

Need to know

Things to know:

Which side of the island is best?
The two main cities in Bermuda are Hamilton, in the south and St. George’s in the north. We stayed in both and really enjoyed the uniqueness of each!

Renting a vehicle:
By far, the best way to really explore the island is by renting a vehicle. There are no rental cars on the island, but there are options! We chose to get around in an electric, two-seater Twizy, which was very fun, if not the most spacious! There are also minis you can rent for a bit more room.

Taxis:
Hiring a car is another convenient option and a must to get your luggage from the hotel to the airport. Be sure to schedule it ahead of time, or you may find there aren’t any available.

Driving in Bermuda:
Definitely be aware you’ll be driving on the left side of the road, but we found it was quite easy to navigate. There aren’t any major highways, so it wasn’t as complicated as we were prepared for.

How to Dress:
Unlike many beachy islands, Bermuda is much more conservative. People like to get fancy! Most places will have a dress code. For lunch, shorts and flip-flops are just fine. However, people get gussied up for dinner. Think a sundress or a cute romper for the ladies or a sport coat and a blazer for the guys. Just keep in mind, no sandy bathing suits or bare feet!

What I wish I’d known:
Many shops will be closed on Sunday, and restaurants will stop serving early. Be sure to plan accordingly!
