Advisor - Las Vegas for Families Through a Local's Lens
Curator’s statement

I grew up in Southern California and my family made the drive to Las Vegas often. Even still, I never knew the plethora of family-friendly fun Las Vegas had to offer outside of the strip. Since moving here in 2023, I'm excited to share my family's and my favorite things to do as Las Vegas Locals.

Things to do in Las Vegas

A picture of myself and my son, Jackson, observing at the Bellagio Conservatory at its Chinese New Year celebration.

  • K1 Speed, an indoor go-kart track. They have separate races for kids and adults. Must be at least 48" tall to drive. There is also an arcade inside!

  • Bellagio Conservatory, a free indoor garden experience. Every season, they change the plants and decorations.

  • Town Square, located south of the Strip, has all sorts of things to do. It's an outdoor mall, but it features family activities like PopStroke (minigolf), an indoor Dinosaur Experience, an outdoor playground that has a water area in the summer and lots of great restaurants. They also do movies on the lawn.

  • Las Vegas Motor Speedway offers an NASCAR weekend twice a year, as well as NHRA Drag Strip racing.

  • Downtown Summerlin (locals call it DTS!) is another awesome outdoor mall type area, in a different part of the city. There is a climbing structure, a Lego store with an interactive area, Build-a-Bear, LUSH and a Farmer's Market every Saturday nine am–2 pm.

  • Fox Hill Park is an INCREDIBLE park next to an elementary school. This park has lots of grassy areas, zip lines, slides, climbing structures and so much more. My kids (ages 1, 3, five and 7) all love this park! Even the big kids like it. Check out my 3-year-old riding the zip-line on my Instagram @sunnylilmama !

  • Las Vegas Ballpark is located right next to DTS, and is where the Las Vegas Aviators play baseball! If you’re here between March–September, definitely check to see if the Aviators are at home. It’s one of my favorite ballparks I have been to. The Aviators are the Athletics’ AAA team, which means you can sometimes see Big League players who may be rehabbing from an injury and getting ready to go back up to the MLB! They also do promo nights for almost every game!

  • Celebrity Cars & Coffee is a free outdoor car enthusiast event. Everything from classic/vintage cars to brand new Lamborghinis shows up to this event! It takes place on Saturday mornings from 7 am–10 am in the Silverado Park Place parking lot.

  • The Las Vegas Natural History Museum is super cool! It has live creatures like fish and scorpions, as well as animatronic dinosaurs, a kids play area and an awesome and interactive mummification demonstration.

  • Finally, the Container Park is an amazing little outdoor center near Fremont Street/Downtown with a 30-foot-tall Praying Mantis that spits fire, an exciting treehouse-style playground in the center, a stage for live music and lots of little shops and restaurant. Think “outdoor food lab”! The Container Park is 21+ after 9 pm.

Places to eat & drink in Las Vegas

The chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes they served at my wedding reception!

  • Nacho Daddy on Sahara - a fun, relaxed atmosphere with great margaritas. The main entrees are various takes on nachos, and their whole thing is “no dry chips”!

  • Archi’s Thai Cafe — my favorite dish is their spicy basil pork. A great option to order takeout or sit in.

  • Roberto’s Tacos - a Las Vegas Mexican food staple, with locations all over the city. I haven’t had food from here of any kind that I haven’t enjoyed.

  • Pho Kim Long - there are two locations! They have great pho and great ambiance.

  • Sickie’s Garage — located in Town Square next to the playground. They have great burgers, yummy appetizers and a kind staff.

  • Pancho’s - a Mexican sit-down restaurant that is part of Downtown Summerlin. Family-owned and so delicious!

  • Sugar Factory — located in the upper level of the Miracle Mile. It’s a candy-themed restaurant, but I had my wedding reception here. My husband actually CRIED over how good the chicken was! LOL. They have great staff, great food and yummy and fun drinks!

Need to know

Sign up for all of the FREE loyalty/points/rewards programs. You don’t have to be staying on that property to sign up! If you’re a veteran or currently in the military, Caesar’s and MGM will upgrade your membership for free, and that includes FREE parking! Las Vegas’ public transportation off the Strip is lacking. Be prepared to shell out for Uber/Lyft or a taxi, or I highly recommend renting your own car, especially if you are traveling with children.
