Day 1: Immerse yourself in horse culture
Morning: Start your day at the Kentucky Horse Park with the fall foliage providing a stunning backdrop. Take a leisurely stroll through the park, admiring the equine statues and learning about the history of horse racing.
Afternoon: Head to the Keeneland Racecourse. Races run in April and October. Guided tours are available daily, year-round to learn about the history of the track and the thoroughbred industry. Afterward, explore the Keeneland Gift Shop for unique horse-themed souvenirs.
Evening: Enjoy a cozy dinner at Merrick Inn, a local restaurant known for its Southern cuisine. I highly recommend the grouper fingers, house salad with homemade cucumber dressing and the fried chicken. Pair your meal with a glass of Kentucky bourbon, a perfect complement to the fall ambiance.
Day 2: Up close and personal with horses
Morning: Visit a local horse farm. Many farms offer tours where you can learn about the care and breeding of thoroughbred horses. You may even have the opportunity to meet some of the world-famous stallions. Tours vary seasonally.
Afternoon: Enjoy a relaxing lunch surrounded by horse farms at Windy Corner Market and Restaurant. This restaurant from famed Kentucky chef Ouita Michel is known for using locally sourced ingredients to create classic Southern fare.
Evening: Relax with from your day on-the-go by watching a film at the historic Kentucky Theater. This Lexington art-deco gem has been restored to its original grandeur and offers a mix of independent, foreign and classic films, catering to a wide range of tastes.
