Day 1: Wander through Catania

Catania is often overlooked by travelers as they head straight for other destinations. However, Catania has a vibrant culture and rich history that should not be overlooked.

Wander through the city’s bustling street markets, where you will also discover the welcoming and convivial nature of the people of Catania! Soak in the sights and sounds and be sure to sample some local specialties like arancini, refreshing granita or the iconic pasta alla norma. Don’t forget to visit the famous La Pescheria (fish market), which offers a lively atmosphere with fresh seafood on display.

Day 2: Street food tour

Consider a morning street food tour with Rockin Kitchen Sicily. Their tours offer a fun and flavorful introduction to Catania’s vibrant food scene.

In the afternoon, explore some of Catania’s historical sites such as the Cathedral of Sant’Agata, dedicated to the city’s patron saint, Ursino Castle and the Roman amphitheater. If you’re in the mood for adventure, consider taking a tour of Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano.

Day 3: Welcome to Siracusa

Arrive in Siracusa and begin in the heart of the city at the Church of Santa Lucia, where you can marvel at the stunning Caravaggio masterpiece, "The Burial of St. Lucy." Just next door, descend into the depths of history at the Latomie dei Cappuccini catacombs.

From here, take a leisurely walk to the Neapolis Archaeological Park, where you can step back in time among the ruins of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. The park is home to the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Ear of Dionysius.

Day 4: Explore Ortigia Island

Explore Ortigia Island which is brimming with shops, cafes and the stunning Piazza Duomo. Consider a boat tour around the island, these tours take you to hidden caves and grottos and often include a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear sea.

Day 5: Museo Archeologico Regionale Paolo Orsi

Take a break from the heat at the Museo Archeologico Regionale Paolo Orsi, which houses Roman, Greek and prehistoric artifacts. For wine lovers, consider a leisurely afternoon at Fausta Mansio, a renowned local winery just outside of town. Savor the flavors of Sicily with wine tastings paired with delicious homemade tapas.

Tip: When making a reservation, let them know if you need transportation and they will recommend a driver.

Day 6: Giardini Naxos

Arrive in Giardini Naxos where stunning beaches invite you to unwind. As the evening sets in, venture to the enchanting town of Taormina. Situated on the cliffs, Taormina offers a plethora of shopping and dining options.

Day 7: Visit Castelmola

Don’t miss the chance to spend a morning visiting Castelmola, a tiny medieval village located high above Taormina. The journey itself is an adventure, as you wind up the mountain you will marvel at the breathtaking views. Be sure to taste the local specialty, Vino di Mandorla, a sweet almond wine.

On your final afternoon discover the Greek Theater in Taormina or head back to the beaches for one more dip in the Ionian sea. I guarantee you will never want to leave!
