Things to do in Zion National Park, Utah

While Zion National Park is famous for its iconic hikes like Angels Landing and The Narrows, there’s so much more to discover in and around Springdale.

  • Canyon Junction Bridge: Start your adventure with a leisurely stroll across this picturesque bridge. It offers stunning views of the Virgin River and the towering cliffs of Zion. It’s a perfect spot for a family photo or a romantic sunset moment.

  • Zion Canyon Scenic Drive: While this is a well-known route, consider renting a bike to explore it at your own pace. The park offers bike rentals, and cycling through the canyon allows you to stop at along the way and take in the scenery without the crowds. You can hike down to the river and rest along the shore and see the wildlife and wildflowers.

  • Zion Nature Center: Perfect for families, this center offers interactive exhibits and ranger-led programs. Kids can learn about the local wildlife and ecosystems, making it both fun and educational.

  • Canyoneering Adventures: For the thrill-seekers, consider booking a canyoneering tour. Local guides will take you through slot canyons, teaching you the ropes of rappelling and navigating through stunning rock formations. It’s an exhilarating way to experience the park’s hidden beauty.

  • Stargazing: After a day of adventure, don’t miss the chance to gaze at the stars. Zion is a designated International Dark Sky Park, making it an ideal location for stargazing. Grab a blanket, find a quiet spot and enjoy the celestial show.

  • Explore the quaint shops: After a day of exploring the park, spend the evening walking along Springdale's main street where there are all kinds of unique shops from outdoor gear to gift shops and art galleries.

  • Hike the Narrows: Inside the park, take a shuttle to the last stop where you will find an easy hike to the Narrows. You can sit and enjoy the beautiful Virgin River, or you can take a swim. If you have proper gear and the water isn't too high (later summer) wade through the water of the narrows. You can walk upstream for miles inside the towering walls of the canyon!

  • Exploring the Park: There are so many different sites to see and places to hike inside the park for everyone! From the avid hiker to small children and the elderly. You can also jump on a shuttle and view the park along the road.

Day trips:

Springdale, Utah, offers a wealth of activities and attractions beyond Zion National Park. Here are some exciting things to do in and around Springdale:

Helicopter tours

  • Experience breathtaking aerial views of Zion National Park and the surrounding landscapes with a helicopter tour. This unique perspective allows you to see the stunning canyons, rock formations and the Virgin River from above.

Rockville Bridge

  • Take a scenic drive, morning run or bike ride to nearby Rockville and stop at the historic Rockville Bridge. This picturesque spot is perfect for photos and a relaxing picnic, offering beautiful views of the surrounding area. This is one of my favorite places for a perfect selfie!

Outdoor adventure

  • Horseback riding: Embark on a horseback riding adventure with companies like "Zion Canyon Trail Rides". This is a fantastic way to explore the rugged beauty of the area while enjoying the scenery from a different vantage point.

  • ATV tours: For a more adrenaline-pumping experience, consider an ATV tour with "Zion ATV and Jeep Tours". These guided tours take you through the stunning landscapes, providing an up-close look at the natural beauty of the region.

Scenic Drives

  • Zion-Mount Carmel Highway: Enjoy a scenic drive through the park, featuring breathtaking views and several pullouts for photo opportunities. Also try and hold your breath through the "Zion Mount Carmel Tunnel", however don't hold it all the way as it is 1.1 miles long!

Places to eat & drink in Zion National Park, Utah

To start your day or after a day of hiking and exploring, you’ll want to refuel with some delicious food. Springdale has a variety of dining options that cater to all tastes.

  • Zion Pizza & Noodle Co.: A local favorite, this casual eatery offers a variety of pizzas and pasta dishes. The outdoor seating area is perfect for families, and the laid-back atmosphere makes it a great spot to relax after a day of adventure.

  • Oscar’s Cafe: MY Very Favorite, is known for its hearty breakfasts and delicious Mexican-inspired dishes, Oscar’s is a must-visit. Try their famous breakfast burrito or the mouthwatering fish tacos for lunch. You can't leave without trying the famous "Chocolate Lave Cake". But don't order too many...one is enough for four people!

  • The Spotted Dog Cafe: This charming spot offers a farm-to-table menu with a focus on fresh, local ingredients. The outdoor patio is a lovely place to enjoy a meal, and their craft cocktails are a perfect way to unwind. This is delicious fine dining.

  • Bit & Spur Restaurant & Saloon: For a more upscale dining experience, head to Bit & Spur. Their menu features Southwestern cuisine with a twist, and the views from the patio are simply breathtaking.

  • Feel Love Coffee: My favorite morning spot for a delicious cup of coffee and avocado toast. Located right near the entrance of the park, it's the perfect spot to start your day, enjoying the views before you enter the park.

  • Meme’s Cafe: In Springdale, Utah, is a cozy dining spot known for its focus on healthy, delicious meals. The cafe offers a variety of nutritious options, including fresh salads, grain bowls and smoothies, alongside hearty breakfast items served all day, like omelets and breakfast burritos made with wholesome ingredients.

One of my favorite things to do is stroll around and explore the charming shops and stores that Springdale is known for. Springdale’s shops and stores reflect the town’s connection to nature and the outdoor lifestyle. Whether you’re looking for gear, art or unique gifts, you’ll find a variety of options that capture the essence of this beautiful area.

Outdoor gear shops

  • Zion Outfitters: This store offers a wide range of outdoor gear, including hiking equipment, climbing gear and apparel. It’s a great place to rent gear if you’re planning on exploring the park.

  • Canyon Junction: Specializing in outdoor clothing and accessories, this shop provides everything you need for your adventures, from hiking boots to backpacks.

Art galleries

  • Zion Canyon Art Gallery: Featuring local artists, this gallery showcases stunning landscapes and wildlife art inspired by the beauty of Zion National Park. It’s a perfect spot to find unique souvenirs or gifts.

  • The Spotted Dog Gallery: This gallery features a mix of contemporary art and traditional pieces, often highlighting the natural beauty of the area. You can find paintings, photography and handcrafted items.

Gift shops

  • Zion National Park Gift Shop: Located near the park entrance, this shop offers a variety of souvenirs, including apparel, mugs and books about the park’s history and wildlife.

  • The Wildflower: A delightful gift shop that features a selection of local crafts, jewelry and home decor items. It’s a great place to find something special to remember your trip.

Specialty food stores

  • Zion Canyon Coffee Company: Perfect for coffee lovers, this shop offers locally roasted coffee and a cozy atmosphere to relax before heading out for your adventures.

  • The Honey Shop: Specializing in local honey and bee-related products, this shop offers a variety of honey flavors, beeswax candles and skincare products made from honey.

Clothing and apparel stores

  • Zion Adventure Company: In addition to gear rentals, this store offers a selection of outdoor clothing suitable for hiking and exploring. You can find everything from moisture-wicking shirts to durable pants.

  • The Mountain Shop: This store features a range of outdoor apparel and accessories, perfect for those looking to gear up for their Zion adventures.

Local craft shops

  • Zion Handmade: A unique shop that showcases handmade crafts and goods from local artisans. You can find pottery, textiles and other handcrafted items that reflect the spirit of the region.
