Curator’s statement

I went to Turks and Caicos with my husband for my 30th birthday and returned years later with my immediate family over Thanksgiving. Whether you are going on a couple's trip, family trip or even a girl's getaway, Turks and Caicos beaches, lovely hotels, relaxed vibe along with great food never disappoints. It offers a nice balance of luxury travel while still feeling relaxed at all times.

Things to do in Turks and Caicos

The image shows a sandy beach with ocean waves, under a clear sky, tilted at an angle.
  • Hit the beach! Most of the hotels are located on the world-famous Grace Bay Beach. Expect white sand and minor waves of aqua-colored water.

  • Long Bay Beach is located on the south side of the island, where you can find a mix of hotels and also some private home rentals. The water is very calm and shallow here to relax in. Ideal for paddle-boarding.

  • Leeward Beach hosts more private homes or villas if you prefer to rent during your stay.

  • Hire a private boat charter to take you around the area. Iguana Island at Half-Moon Bay is a fun highlight to explore along with the shipwreck on Long Bay Beach.

  • There are multiple reefs to see around the island if you love to snorkel. Have your boat guide take you to them directly to see turtles, stingrays and other beautiful tropical fish.

  • Jet skis are also a great option. There are many local providers who pop up around the beaches you can rent by the hour. Don't forget to negotiate with them. What is great about driving a jet ski in Turks and Caicos, even for beginners, is that the water is always relatively calm. Especially on the Long Bay Beach side! We even took my four-year-old son on one driving slowly, and he loved it.

  • If you are into gambling, the Ritz Carlton has a small Casino. I do not recommend going to other independent casinos, though.

Places to eat & drink in Turks and Caicos

The image shows a nighttime scene of a well-lit building with balconies behind palm trees and a stone-paved area in the foreground.
  • Infiniti - Located at Grace Bay Club, looking over the beach, their food, service and ambiance never disappoints. The often have live music some nights with a local singer who is very pleasant to listen to while you dine.

  • Graces Cottage - Romantic, free-standing outdoor restaurant for local fare and drinks. Great for couples.

  • Vita Restaurant — Perched 30 feet above sea level at the Rock House Hotel, you will get great sunset views as you dine on modern Italian food and seafood. Start with an aperitif at the cave bar or sunset bar as well at the same property.

  • Sui-Ren — If you are craving sushi or Asian flavors, this is the place for you. Located at the shore club in a pretty outdoor setting.

  • Indigo - Located at the Wynmara Hotel, they offer Caribbean-inspired food that is locally and sustainably sourced. After dinner, take a walk to their beach bar and hang by the fire pits for a night cap.

  • Coralli - Open for breakfast and lunch at the Ritz. Modern setting with beautiful views of Grace Bay Beach.

  • Coco Bistro — Favored by locals on the island, you can experience traditional island food in a candle-lit setting while surrounded by many palm trees and bright-colored décor.

Need to know

Don't forget to pack some bug spray. When there is some minor rain, mosquitos love to come visit.

Taxis can be a bit pricy if traveling as a group since they charge per person/per ride. Something to take into consideration when choosing your hotel or if renting a car could be better.
