Things to do in Kythira Island

A beach coastline next to rocky cliffs during the daytime

Enjoy the island's stunning beaches. Among the most popular ones are:

  • Kapsali Beach — Sandy, family-friendly and partly organized with sun beds.

  • Kaladi Beach — This beach is not organized and is nudist-friendly with crystal-clear waters.

  • Chalkos Beach - One of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Pebbled, non-organized, quiet with sandy parts in a beautiful natural setting.

  • Diakofti Beach — Family-friendly, sandy, it is part of the island's main port.

Explore the island's castle: The castle is located in Avlemonas and has Venetian, Byzantine and medieval architectural elements. Besides exploring the castle ruins, including Byzantine churches, houses and fortress walls, the panoramic view is stunning and a great spot for pictures and videos.

Visit the island's chora: Kythira town is a beautiful place to visit with its narrow paths, traditional houses, shops and restaurants.

Hike the Mylopotamos waterfalls trails: In the village of Mylopotamos you can explore a beautiful green canyon that includes small waterfalls. The hiking paths make it easy to walk along the running water and rich natural terrain.

Day trips

Take a day trip to Chytra: This small island is uninhabited and is well-known for its crystal clear waters, perfect for snorkeling. It also has a cave on its south side where you may see seals.
