Curator’s statement

Todos Santos is a charming, small town, yet it caters to various styles of travel. It is great for solo travelers, families and couples! You might be surprised to hear that a lot of expats live there. But what keeps me coming back are the farm-to-table restaurants, cobblestone streets, vibrant color and down-to-earth feel with moments of chic luxury. Since it is growing in popularity, I also love how there are always new places for me to explore. I like to credit the backpackers and surfers that put this place on the map for all walks of life to enjoy.

Things to do in Todos Santos, Mexico

A mirage of multi-colored umbrellas, hung from lines, above a local street.

Beaches:

  • Los Cerritos is ideal for swimming or learning how to surf.

  • Las Palmas is very scenic with a short walk through the palms and some wild horses (but be careful).

  • La Pastora good for advanced surfers and pretty for sunset.

Yoga:

  • Cuatro Vientos- located across the street from La Esquina (another great breakfast/lunch option), offers workshops, events and lots of daily yoga and dance classes.

Spa:

  • Guaycura Boutique Hotel - I love that you can choose if you want your spa treatment at their hotel, in downtown Todos Santos, or at their beach club & spa, El Faro.

Surf:

  • Cerritos Beach is good for beginner surfers.

  • La Pastora is good for advanced surfers.

Art & Culture:

  • Jill Logan Galeria - I had the pleasure of casually meeting Jill on my first trip to Todos Santos. She has had her gallery in Todos Santos since 1998. The art and working studio feel definitely draws you in and keeps you in.

  • Galeria de Todos Santos - is another gem which has been around since 1994.

Biking :

  • Over The Edge Sports - provides bike rentals of all kinds to explore the streets and trails of the surrounding area on your own or to enjoy on a guided tour.

Shopping:

  • Tequila Town - It is obvious what this shop specializes in. The owners are incredibly knowledgable and offer flight tastings of tequila and mezcal. There is a great outdoor market, and adorable shops all within walking distance in downtown Todos Santos. Some of my favorite stores are Zócalo, Nomad Chic, Hilo Rojo, Ulula + more!

Pool Passes:

If your accommodation of choice doesn’t have a pool or you would like to change the pool scene a bit, you can purchase pool passes from various places. All of them usually include a food/drink credit! The passes range depending on location. Cerritos Surf Hotel & DŪM range from $20-$40. Whereas Hotel San Cristobal ranges from $280-$450 for up to 2 people including a $100 food/beverage.

Day trips:

  • La Paz to swim with whale sharks (seasonal) or to enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen.

  • La Ventana is also a top destination if you are a kite surfer or wingfoilen. I see this town expanding like Todos Santos has and continues to soon.

Places to eat & drink in Todos Santos, Mexico

Breakfast:

  • Taller 17 - This is such a tiny bakery that it makes me feel like I am in Europe. It is situated on the corner of a quite cobblestone street and has a few 2 seater tables outside. I love their jalapeño scone!

  • Doce Cuarenta - A bit outside of downtown, this is the biggest café in Todos Santos. It has modern warehouse-style architecture, and is one of the most popular spots to work from.

  • La Esquina- This outdoor eatery is directly across the street from Cuatro Vientos. It is a perfect stop before or after your yoga class. You can fuel up on juices, smoothies, a great meal, and organic coffee! It also provides a pleasant work environment and sometimes live music.

Lunch/Dinner:

  • Jazamango- This is hands-down my favorite restaurant in Todos Santos, specifically for the food and farm-to-table experience. I always order the Zucchini Carpaccio straight from their garden. Note that there are 2 locations. The one I am talking about is a smidge outside of downtown Todos Santos.

  • Oystera - If you love oysters, this is your spot. I suggest going during light hours to fully take in the design of the space. I love getting a drink or cappuccino to enjoy in the back patio, which overlooks a beautifully manicured landscape. It is a stunning garden of climbing ivy and bouganvillea.

  • Tre Galline- Delicious handmade pasta! Unfortunately they had to vacate their quaint location for a more mainstream location, but their food is still great! I’m Italian, so I know what I’m talkin’ about. They also tend to have romantic live music.

  • The Green Room - If you are a surfer, you know about this place, just due to its name. This is the spot to sink your toes in the sand while you dine! You can’t get any closer to the ocean, without getting wet, at this restaurant. The food and drinks are great too.

  • Dūm - This is basically the ‘Chef's Table’ of Todos Santos. Sit under a palm grove while enjoying a creatively elegant meal.

  • Mejibo - I was at this lovely restaurant before they moved locations, and the food was so good! Everything was so fresh and presented nicely.

  • Pizzeria Romantica - This place provided the largest list of pizzas on a menu that I have ever seen, and it was delicious!

  • Siempre Viva Farm to Table at Hotel El Perdido- The food is on par with the space, which is beautiful.

  • Coyote at Hotel at El Perdido - This place is pretty cool. Think ‘Trailer-to-Table’ experience but only in the best way. Their kitchen is actually in an airstream. You feel like you are in the middle of the desert; I guess in a way you are since you are in Mexico!

  • Hierbabuena - A wholesome feeling farm-to-table experience without the frills.

  • Agricole Cooperativa Market & Restaurant - This is your one-stop shop for foodies. They offer the best high quality groceries and yet again, another farm-to-table dining experience beside their garden.

Drinks:

  • Bajavaria Beer Garden - This place is adorable and also serves wine. Enjoy beer from Mexico and even Germany with your hot pretzel!

  • La Confianza - They had me at 'natural wine.' It is also the same owner as Taller 17. Note that no kids are allowed.

  • Sky Lounge Bar - This is the only place I know of in Todos Santos that you can take in the views of downtown from a rooftop hotel.

  • Hotel California - I really enjoyed my piña colada from this place probably because they put it in a to-go cup for me. I am a sucker for a roady cocktail.

Need to know

If you are looking for bustling night life, this is not your destination. You are better off staying in Cabo if that is what you are seeking from your trip.

Todos Santos is an easy breezy drive from Cabo San Lucas. I highly suggest renting a car at the Cabo airport (I use Hertz). Rates are cheaper in person and you can negotiate versus purchasing at a fixed price online. Some accommodations and restaurants are not walking distance, so having a car will give you lots of freedom to explore.

If you are lucky on your trip in Todos Santos, you may just rub shoulders with Corona. No, I don’t mean the virus. I’m talking about the street dog that runs the town. If you are a dog lover like me, you can easily adopt every dog you see on the street, but I am pretty confident Corona is content with his life. He also isn’t the most domesticated street dog.
