A vibrant blue swimming pool in front of a bright blue building, American flag pole and palm trees. There are people swimming in the pool as well.
Curator’s statement

Calistoga, California, is one of the northernmost towns in Napa Valley wine country. One of the best things about Calistoga is the abundance of naturally occurring mineral hot springs! The next best thing is that you can walk to dinner, tasting rooms and shops from most hotels in the area. If you are coming from San Francisco or Oakland airports, you will pass through Napa, Yountville and St. Helena. If this is the case, definitely stop for a tasting and lunch on your way in! I’m partial to a tasting at Ashes and Diamonds and lunch at R&D Kitchen for a fun and festive atmosphere. Calistoga is the perfect destination for a relaxing and fun weekend getaway all year round.

Things to do in Calistoga

A beautiful outdoor dining table with wicker chairs, a manicured lawn, abundant tree and stone house covered in vines in the background.
  • Soak in the hot springs! I generally like to stay at a hotel that has their own hot springs. If your lodging doesn't have access to hot springs, you can purchase day passes for select hot springs through Resort Pass.

  • Get a mud bath: Indian Springs Calistoga, Dr. Wilkinson’s Backyard Resort and Solage Resort all offer volcanic ash mud baths.

  • Spa: The Spa at Solage is capital W, worth it. They have hot springs pools, cold plunge, a sauna and steam room and amazing masseuses. They even have poolside service to enjoy a fresh squeezed juice or bubbles after your spa treatment.

  • Calistoga Farmers Market: Rain or shine, Saturday mornings.

  • Pilates at Calistoga Pilates or yoga at Hot Yoga Calistoga.

  • Distillery at Calistoga Depot: Visit the Calistoga Depot Distillery for spirit tasting and classes.

Wine Tasting!

  • Olabisi: This stylish family owned tasting room is right on the square.

  • Rivers-Marie: Single vineyards bottlings from Napa super star Thomas Rivers. Beautiful, modern and upscale tasting room.

  • Frank Family Vineyards: You can’t walk to Frank Family from downtown, but it’s worth hopping in an Uber for this one. Beautiful grounds and multiple sites to taste. The wines are also delicious.

  • Schramsberg Vineyards: Come here for the bubbles. They also have a cave tour.

Places to eat & drink in Calistoga

Three plates of colorful food with silverware and wine glasses on top of a wooden table. There is a floral arrangement in the middle of the table as well.
  • Solbar at Solage: Eating outside under the stars on a warm summer night can’t be beat. This is a don’t miss spot!

  • House of Better Calistoga: Great lattes and avocado toast.

  • Auro: A Michelin starred restaurant at the Four Seasons.

  • Sam’s Social Club: Named after Sam Brannan, California’s first gold rush millionaire. Start the day with brunch at Sam’s, end the day with a cocktail.

  • Fleetwood: Beautiful design, outdoor firepits, wood fired pizzas and craft cocktails. Great for large groups.

  • Lovina: Farm-to-table dining in downtown Calistoga. Picture perfect outdoor patio.

  • Cal Mart: Grocery store with excellent wine selections and lots of gourmet goodies.

  • Calistoga Inn & Brewery: Lively restaurant with outdoor patio, fire pits and a beer garden. Another great spot for large groups.

  • Evangeline: French bistro with excellent brunch and dinner. Don’t miss the fried pickles.

  • Parlor Car: Champagne and caviar served in a retired train car at the Calistoga Depot.

  • End the night at Susie’s Bar with the locals!
