Curator’s statement

Mexico City was my husband and I's first trip as newlyweds, shortly after our wedding, so it holds special memories. I was blown away by the beautiful architecture, natural greenery intertwining the city, and incredible food. Now, I want as many others to experience the vibrancy and culture of Mexico City as well.

Things to do in Mexico City

View of fountain and statues through an arch.

Chapultepec Castle

Located atop a hill, this is one of the only royal palaces in North America which were inhabited by monarchs. This castle offers stunning views overlooking Mexico City.

Ceramica Libertad

A great shop to buy locally handmade ceramics. They have lovely colorful mugs and plates to bring back home or purchase as gifts.

Mercado Roma

A huge food hall with international dining options and rooftop beer garden.

Mercado de Artesanias

A large market selling local textiles, art and souvenirs. You can find some unique Christmas ornaments at several stalls in this market.

Museo Nacional de Antropologia

The largest and most visited museum in Mexico! This museum is nearby Chapultepec Castle in the park.

Frida Kahlo Museum

The infamous cobalt-blue house is dedicated to the life and work of Frida Kahlo, famous Mexican artist

Floating gardens of Xochimilco

Offers a truly unique experience of leisurely floating down an extensive canal system on colorful boats. Please note you'll have to drive 40 minutes outside Mexico City to get to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Xochimilco. You can bring drinks and snacks onboard or buy them from vendors also floating on the water to enjoy on your journey.

Lucha Libre at Arena Coliseo

Lucha Libre is more than wrestling. It's an entire experience and entertainment for all ages. You can grab tickets to experience lucha libre for yourself at Arena Coliseo in Mexico City.

Places to eat & drink in Mexico City

A display of baked items in a bakery.

Handshake Speakeasy

This bar is a true speakeasy and most recently named number three best bar in the world, and for good reason. I highly recommend making a reservation beforehand. You can't make a wrong choice here, but some drinks come with added fun, like catching a smoke bubble with your glass. The ambience and experience at Handshake is truly top-notch and memorable.

Panaderia Rosetta

This bakery is picturesque and has one of the widest selections of pastries and breakfast items I've seen. The guava roll is an absolute must-try!

Taqueria Orinoco

There are several locations spread around the city. This casual taqueria is an excellent, tasty choice for a quick taco.

Churrería El Moro

What is better than fresh and warm cinnamon-sugary fried dough? You can grab fresh churros from one of their several locations from morning through late-night hours, making for a perfect post-dinner or post-bar snack.

Lardo

This Mediterranean-Mexican fusion spot is a hip choice for brunch or lunch in the Condesa neighborhood. The grilled octopus is fantastic.

Hot tip: grab a seat at the bar to watch the kitchen in action!

Contramar

Sensational seafood entrees like the whole fish covered in bright, flavorful sauces.

Cafebrería El Péndulo

This is such a unique cafe nestled within a huge, beautiful bookstore. The Polanco location is particularly stunning.

Madre Café

Madre has a really stylish property and terrace to compliment their brunch offerings. A great place to try chilaquiles.

Hanky Panky

Sneak through the operational taqueria to this speakeasy - also making the top 50 greatest bars in the world list. Cozy up with a cocktail or two at this warm, dimly lit cocktail bar.
