Things to do in Prague

For the history buffs, I highly recommend booking a guided walking tour with the City Guide at the Information Center at the Astronomical Tower Town Hall. The guides are knowledgeable, thorough and they keep it fun! The walking tour lasts 1 1/2 hours and they vary on the areas of the city they explore. They also offer different language tours to accommodate visitors. Visit prague.eu/guides for the details on the guides.

If you love the towers and want the best views, be sure to check out the Astronomical Tower, St Nicholas Tower, Old Town Tower and the Lesser Town Tower and finally, the Petrin Lookout Tower. All of these towers have admission fees but if you purchase the Prague City Visitor Card, you can get these admissions for free plus SO MUCH MORE! Visit praguevisitorpass.eu for more information.

If you love sitting back and relaxing while sipping on a mulled wine or a lager, perhaps a river cruise is up your alley. The Prague Venice Boat Historical Boat Trips give you the best of Prague in 45 minutes. Travel along the Vlvava River beginning at the base of the Charles Bridge and travel back in time to the 13th Century. You'll receive earbuds so you can choose your language for your guide. The audio guide is available in 19 languages. When you're finished with the boat trip, explore the Charles Bridge museum and finish up at the Baroque Cafe. Visit prague-venice.com for times and information.

Another unique must see is the Dancing House. This house is an optical illusion in that it looks like it is moving with the neighboring house. There is a hotel, restaurant, gallery and rooftop bar offering 360-degree views of Prague. This house was built in 1996 and it was inspired by the dancing movements of famous couple Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. For more information visit prague.eu.

Prague Astronomical Tower is a must see! Be ready for crowds, especially at the top of the hour when the windows open and the "show" starts. At the top of the hour, the statues rotate through the windows and the skeleton statue on the side of the clock rings his bell as a reminder that death comes at the end of the day. The other statues, which signify laziness, greed and vanity, slightly shake their heads during the chiming. The entire show lasts about a minute or so. It's amazing because this clock was set and built for this specific spot back in the 1400's and it still works!

Jewish Quarter is an area mingled within the Old Town that has such a rich history that is worth exploring. In the Quarter, you will find the oldest active synagogue in Central Europe, The Alteneu Shul. This synagogue still has services and still honors the separation of men and women during the services. This is the legendary home of the Golem of Prague.

Places to eat & drink in Prague

Complimentary breakfast from your hotel is ideal, but if you don't score that perk, there are endless cafes and restaurants offering breakfast.

Czech Slovak Restaurant for dinner for delicious authentic Czech style foods. They offer over 100 wines and upon being seated, guests receive either a small tasting of two beers or two wines. The meal was delicious and the wine pairing was spot on! czechslovak.cz for reservations, menu and more.

Loki Burgers is a spot on find for handmade and highly unique and flavorful burgers and french fries. The price is good for a cheddar burger and fries. There are options for sweet potato fries as well. lokiburgers.cz for more information

For a local treat, stopping at a Trdlo is a must!! These chimney-style cakes filled with your choice of ice cream, whipped cream or chocolate are a perfect sweet treat after walking all day. You can find several locations within Old Town and Lesser Town. Check trdlo.com for more details

Need to know

There are so many things to see and experience in Prague just by simply getting out and walking and exploring the city. I highly recommend the City Pass because for the prepaid hours you purchase, you have unlimited use of public transport. This is handy because if you get tired, hop on a tram to the next spot!
