When one thinks of Mexico and beaches, the first place that probably comes to mind is Cancun. An equally popular destination in Mexico is Cabo San Lucas, which has a lot to offer, be it for couples or families. Here's a guide to the best resorts in Cabo San Lucas for couples.

Things to do in Cabo

A blue pool surrounded by white lounge chairs and palm trees next to the beach with a beige building in the background.

What makes Cabo special, you may ask. Well, here are a few reasons to make Cabo your next beach destination:

  • Breathtaking scenery: Think dramatic coastline, with rugged but towering cliffs, sandy beaches and turquoise waters as far as you can see! Add to this the contrast of the desert and trails for hikes with the most amazing views and you get the full picture!

  • Vibrant nightlife scene: Cabo boasts an energetic night life. Explore a variety of clubs, bars, restaurants (did I mentioned amazing food yet?) with live music, DJs and creative cocktails with a backdrop of the Pacific Ocean and the prettiest sunsets

  • Strategic geographical location: Cabo’s location at the southern most tip of the Baja peninsula has earned it the name “Lands End”. Its diverse landscapes including the desert, mountainous terrain and expansive views of the ocean create a picturesque scene to enjoy.

  • Variety of recreational activities: From surfing, to deep sea fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving to enjoy the ocean with seasonal whale watching as well, to ATV excursions, hiking, horseback riding or ziplining, there’s something for everyone here.

  • Warm and welcoming atmosphere: Cabo and the surrounding area exude a laid back atmosphere with friendly locals. Experience genuine hospitality and warmth from the locals.

Waldorf Astoria Pedregal

Nestled at the base of Pedregal Mountain in Cabo San Lucas, Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal stands out as a top choice. Readers of Travel + Leisure have dubbed it Mexico's best hotel. From the moment you enter the private tunnel that cuts through the mountain to approach this hidden gem, you experience the exclusivity of this property. Your personal concierge is at your service, whether for making dinner reservations at El Farallon, or arranging a private excursion, or a Spa day. The Concierge team can help you plan the perfect day for you from their curated list of activities. Treat yourself to a day at the Waldorf Astoria Spa with a Couples massage (don’t forget to arrive early for your appointment so you can enjoy the private pool and other amenities open only to spa guests). Start your day with breakfast in the room, or better yet, at Don Manuel’s, enjoy lunch at The Beach Club, or Crudo and round up your day with a four course meal with fresh seafood at El Farallon, perched on the cliffs with an expansive view of the Pacific Ocean, where you can also add a Champagne tasting experience with your meal. The whole property exudes a Zen like vibe with seclusion and wellness at its core.

Esperanza, an Auberge resort

Tucked between two scenic bluffs on the Baja Peninsula, Esperanza was the first truly luxury resort in the Cabo area 20 years ago. While this is not an Adults only resort, the facilities are separated in a way that allows families and couples to enjoy their time in Cabo in their own separate ways. Boasting a world renowned spa, exclusive private beaches, championship golf courses and a vibrant night life, this property has everything you could dream of for a couples getaway. Enjoy time by the ocean facing adults only pool, a walk on the beach overlooking the Sea of Cortez, a romantic dinner at the recently redesigned award winning restaurant, Cocina del Mar, services at the award winning spa. Choose from 59 casitas or suites with your private concierge and experience their top notch service that will ensure your stay is unforgettable.

The One and Only Palmilla, Cabo

Located right at the edge of the Baja Peninsula with panoramic views of the Sea of Cortez, the O&O Palmilla is perfect for a romantic getaway in luxurious style. The lush environs make you feel like you are the only one around! The classic Mexican architecture and the beachfront location also add to the romantic vibe. Service is excellent at this swimmable beachfront property, and you will enjoy locally sourced ingredients in stunning settings. Explore local art, or take private surf lessons or a culinary class, or practice your swing on the world class golf course during the day, and complete your day with a holistic spa treatment or a healing ritual. The secluded and luxurious property allows you to rediscover yourselves in an enchanting setting. Its proximity to the town of San Jose del Cabo allows you to experience local attractions and restaurants if you wish to leave the property.

Hotel San Cristobal, Todos Santos

All good things are found at the end of a dirt road – and that couldn’t be said better! While this resort is in the town of Todos Santos, an hour’s drive out of Cabo, this guide would be incomplete without mention of this property. Very different from the previously mentioned resorts, yet one of my favorite resorts in the area for couples. It exudes a laid back luxury that is hard to get. Very small with only 32 rooms and suites around the perfect pool, this is the perfect setting for a babymoon, honeymoon or just couples in general. Chic design with trendy robes and fascinating tile design in the bathrooms, and expansive patios in some rooms, or a plunge pool in others, the setting is very intimate. My favorite part is that all produce is sourced from their own garden, and fish is sourced locally to keep shipping costs to a minimum and keeping sustainability top of mind. The friendly and attentive staff are ready to serve you, and the concierge team will gladly accompany you on a hike to Punta Lobos – the view is definitely worth it. Enjoy whale watching or if its not the season for whales, enjoy watching the sea lions jumping onto the rocks! Head into downtown Todos Santos for some shopping or dinner at a local restaurant, or simply stay behind and enjoy the delicacies at Cosecha or Benno – you won’t go wrong either way!

Las Ventanas Al Paraiso

This Rosewood property is a top choice for couples. If you’re looking for the best setting, and love being waited on hand and foot, anticipating your every need, this is for you. All amenities are spread out across this resort giving the impression of total privacy for couples. Multiple pool, beach and cabana options allow you to enjoy the facilities without missing an adults only property. With 84 luxurious suites and villas including 12 Signature beach villas, and innovative amenities, you will never want to leave! All rooms feature butler service, and are spacious beyond compare. With five distinct dining venues, you will get to experience various cuisines during your stay. Did I mention they have a Director of Romance dedicated to making your romantic dreams come true! The little things that make the difference, like asking you to choose the fragrance in your room, to pampering Pool Butlers set this resort apart from any other. The spa at Las Ventanas is heralded as one of the world’s best spas, with indoor/outdoor treatment rooms, duet suites for couples, a serene solarium and a full service salon, and offers holistic treatments inspired by the resort’s surroundings.
