Curator’s statement

Prescott, Arizona, is one of the most underrated cities in all of Arizona. It was founded in 1864 as Arizona's first capital, and still retains much of its old western feel. My parents got married in the old St. Michael Hotel and I got married to my husband in the forest just outside the city! Needless to say, Prescott has a special place in my heart. I hope to show you why it should be at the top of your list when visiting Northern Arizona.

Icons of Prescott

  • Visit the saloons at Whiskey Row and try to spot the Whiskey Row Alley, where you might just find a secret bar or two.

  • Take a stroll around the Courthouse Plaza, where you will find countless antique shops, old western souvenir stores and places to grab a bite. You can even picnic under the backdrop of the gorgeous courthouse building and its display of Arizona flags.

Outdoor adventures

  • Fully embrace the old west and ride horseback through a forest trail. It is especially beautiful to do this activity during the snowy season!

  • Prefer a more modern adventure? Go for an exciting offroading adventure through Prescott National Forest!

  • Visiting in the warmer seasons means boating on Watson lake, a beautiful lake surrounded by unique smooth rock formations, or the lush and green Goldwater Lake. You may also consider kayaking or fishing!

  • If you’re still looking for a taste for the outdoors, there are many trails throughout the Prescott National Forest for hikers of all experience levels. A few dog friendly trails too!

Places to eat & drink in Prescott, Arizona

Food and drink on a brown table.
  • Bear & Dragon Cafe and Restaurant: Step into this library-themed restaurant created by a local author! The breakfast and coffee is absolutely delicious. If you go for lunch, try the goldilock. It’s a brie grilled cheese with cherry jam. (Don’t knock it until you try it!) All of their sandwiches can be made gluten-free.

  • El Gato Azul: A gem for tapas and chill vibes.

  • Back Alley Wine Bar: If you can find it, this hidden bar has live music and a wonderful selection of wines.

  • Colt Grill: This BBQ is going to have your mouth watering for a week. It’s easily the best you’ll have this side of Texas! They have a bunch of different sauces to choose from. My favorite is the campfire apricot. They offer a dog-friendly patio.

  • Palace Restaurant & Saloon: If you want to feel like you’re walking into an old west film, complete with squeaky saloon doors, you’re in for a treat here.

  • The Barley Hound: A cute restaurant inside of a historic house. Their patio is dog-friendly. I definitely recommend the poutine!

  • The Grumpy Sicilian: Grab a slice of traditional Pepperoni or one topped with pasta. There are plenty of options to choose from including made-to-order gluten-free pizza.

  • The County Seat: This sandwich shop is nestled in the second story of a souvenir and oil tasting store. It boasts beautiful views of the Prescott Courthouse Plaza.
