Things to do in Dominica

  • Whale watching: Dominica is one of the few places in the world you can successfully whale-watch all year. It has a population of sperm whales that reside in the surrounding warm waters year-round.

  • Diving/snorkeling: Shallow, protected reefs on the south and east sides of the island are famous for the wide range of marine life and underwater vents. The most notable location is Champagne Reef, where bubbles released from the vents make you feel like you are swimming through a glass of bubbly!

  • Hiking: Day hikes or a through hike are both opportune here in an environment rich in waterfalls, rivers and hot springs. An especially cool but difficult hike is to one of the world's only boiling lakes!

  • Bush Rum Bars: You can’t think of the Caribbean without thinking of rum! There are bush bars all around that offer an authentic rum-making experience and a variety of rum flavors and drinks.

  • Pirates of the Caribbean filming locations: Spots all around the island are famous for their cinematic fame! Especially rivers and gorges.

  • Titou Gorge: Speaking of filming locations, Titou Gorge is a must-see spot famous for the secret waterfall you can find at the end.

  • River cruises: There are an incredible 365 rivers in the small country! Many of the larger rivers offer river cruises where you can spot protected fish and birds.

  • Local street markets: The best part of the lush landscape is the fruits grown year-round! Stop by a local market to taste the difference in fresh fruit and juices.

Places to eat & drink in Dominica

  • Ruins Rock Cafe: This bar resembles ruins from the historical era of the island and is a great place to meet locals and try authentic cocktails.

  • Ocean Edge Restaurant and Bar: Upscale dining with a stunning view! This is a one-stop shop for American and Caribbean fares.

  • Sunset Bay Clubs Lobster Palace: The name says it all! There isn’t a better place to have fresh lobster on the island.

  • Zeb Zepis Bistro: French Caribbean with local sources, fresh vegetables and sea food thanks to the tropical year-round growing climate.

  • POZ Restaurant and Bar at Calibishie Gardens: Cajun and creole with a lot of great vegetarian and gluten-free options!

  • Keepin’ it Reel: Dive into a seafood plate or fresh-pressed juices after a day of snorkeling or hiking.

Need to know

Dominica is a small island with a nature-focused appeal. Any point on the island can be reached in under two hours, but many trails, restaurants and resorts are of a similar caliber all around. We spent a week there and it was the perfect timeline to hike, relax, go on whale-watching trips and rejuvenate at the spa and pool!
