Things to do in Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park, Maine
Circumnavigating Park Loop Road - This is the main road that goes around Mount Desert Island. There are several highlights including:
Sand Beach – This is a lovely small beach where you can swim (beware it’s cold!) or just sit on a blanket and enjoy the day, laughing with your friends.
Cadillac Mountain – The highest point in the park, this is one of the first places to see the sunrise in the U.S. It’s such a popular sunrise spot that the park requires vehicle reservations.
Thunderhole – The turning tide creates a thunderous noise out of this carved inlet that peaks 45 minutes before high tide.
Otter Point – This is a great spot to see the waves crashing and contemplate life.
The Carriage Roads – Pretend you are a Rockefeller and walk, bike or take a carriage rides along the same roads that John D. Rockefeller rode.
Finding Your Perfect Hike – There are so many good hikes. For the perfect mix of thrill with a spectacular view, try the Beehive Trail.
Bar Harbor
Start early with Lulu’s Lobster tour. Insider tip: Get on the water early before it gets too rough. You’ll have a great time and learn all about generations of lobster fishermen and women.
If you can catch low tide, consider walking over to Little Bar Harbor Island. If not, take the Shore Path and marvel at the stately homes that line the harbor.
In the afternoon, enjoy shopping and the option of casual or fine dining, you will love a day in Bar Harbor. From the well-curated Sherman’s Maine Coast Bookstore (the oldest bookstore in Maine!) to Into the Woods, a unique store filled with wooden carved treasures.
Day Trips
Schoodic Point - On the mainland, go see a much lesser visited part of Bar Harbor. Pink granite cliffs and crashing waves and a beautiful drive from Bar Harbor.
Damariscotta - Love oysters? Head to one of the best places in the world and take a tour of eight oyster farms.

Hull’s Cove General Store – unassuming bakery and deli inside the Sunoco Station. Food crafted with love!

Jordan Pond House – Skip the wait and walk up to the counter to get your popovers to go. Find a quiet spot along the Jordan Lake to eat them.
Dinner
The Reading Room Restaurant at The Bar Harbor Inn – Delicious steaks and seafood in a quintessential New England dining room.
Havana’s: “American Fine Dining with Latin Flair” – enjoy fabulous seafood and fine American cuisine with a wine list that goes on for days.

Bar Harbor Cheesecake Company – Get truffles and wine and sit on the 2nd level overlooking the busy street below.
