1. The Bayon Temple

While Angkor Wat is the most famous temple in the complex, the Bayon Temple is equally intriguing. Known for its 54 stone towers adorned with over 200 faces of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, this temple is a striking example of Khmer architecture. Take a guided tour to understand the symbolism behind the numerous carvings and bas-reliefs on the walls.

2. Banteay Srei

Located about 25 kilometers away from the main temple complex, Banteay Srei is a smaller, less crowded temple which makes it perfect for a peaceful visit. It is famous for its intricate and detailed carvings, earning it the nickname "the Citadel of Women". This temple is made entirely of pink sandstone and is a must-visit for any history or architecture enthusiast.

3. Angkor National Museum

To truly understand the significance and history of Angkor Wat, a visit to the Angkor National Museum is a must. The museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts, sculptures, and interactive displays that provide a deeper understanding of the Khmer civilization and the construction of Angkor Wat.

4. Tonle Sap Lake

A visit to Tonle Sap Lake will take you away from the hustle and bustle of the temple complex and give you a glimpse into the traditional Cambodian way of life. Take a boat trip to explore the floating villages and witness the unique way of living of the locals. This is also a great opportunity to try out some authentic Cambodian cuisine.

5. Phnom Kulen National Park

Escape the crowds and explore the natural beauty of Angkor Wat's surroundings at Phnom Kulen National Park. This mountain range is home to several temples, including the oldest temple in the country, Preah Ang Thom. The park is also an excellent spot for hiking and swimming in the waterfall pools.

6. Traditional Cambodian Dance Performance

End your day at Angkor Wat by watching a traditional Cambodian dance performance. These cultural shows are held in several locations near the temple complex and are a beautiful display of Khmer mythology and legends. You will be transported to another time and leave with a better understanding of Cambodian culture.

7. Iconic Sunrise View

Witnessing the sunrise at Angkor Wat is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that combines spirituality, history, and natural beauty. It's a perfect way to start your day while immersing yourself in the rich culture and history of Cambodia.

Exploring these hidden gems will give you a deeper appreciation for the rich history and culture of this magnificent site. So, make sure to add these must-see and do activities to your itinerary for a truly unforgettable experience in Angkor Wat.
