Curator’s statement

My in-laws have spent almost every weekend in Geyserville for over 30 years — especially special during the summer when escaping the San Francisco fog. Since moving to SF 10 years ago, I’ve been lucky to enjoy the wine, hiking, food and shopping in the (ever-so-slightly) lesser-known California wine towns.

Things to do in Healdsburg & Geyserville

  • Stroll Healdsburg Plaza: Pop into the shops, restaurants and antique stores. Make sure to get ice cream or pie from Noble Folk Ice Cream & Pie!

  • Wine taste: Spend a day (or two… or three) checking out the wine Healdsburg and Geyserville has to offer. My favorites are below!

  • Spend time at Lake Sonoma: We especially enjoy hiking the Dry Creek, North Slope, and Bummer Trails. The loop is a great mix of shaded woods and lake front views.

Seasonal activities

  • From May-October, The Madrona Hotel hosts Movies on the Lawn, complete with snacks, wine from local wineries and blankets.

  • Every Friday in the summer, the Wilson Artisan Wines hosts a Summer Music Series. They’ve got food trucks, great wine and seats either at tables or areas to bring your own picnic setup.

Wineries

  • The Wilson Artisan Wineries family — including DeLorimier, Wilson Winery and Soda Rock — is a favorite for being family- and dog-friendly (they love our daughter and pup!). They’ve each got amazing wines and laidback, beautiful properties.

  • Sbragia Family Vineyards has a lovely patio overlooking Dry Creek Valley. We love to pick up lunch at Dry Creek General Store and enjoy a bottle of rosé and picnic lunch at Sbragia.

  • Mauritson is one of the first wineries that I visited in Healdsburg, and we’ve brought many friends and family here since.

  • Flowers Winery is a must-visit with its stunning tasting room, property and wine program focused on pinot and chardonnay.

  • Silver Oak has a beautiful property, views of the vines and an incredible cab sauv.

Tasting rooms

  • Marine Layer, right off the square in Healdsburg, is a modern, beautiful space.

  • Williamson Wines is a fan favorite. They offer wine and cheese pairings and have incredibly friendly staff.

Restaurants

  • Catelli’s in downtown Geyserville is a family favorite for its great Italian food and lovely back patio.

  • Diavola has tasty pizzas and salads, great for after a long day of wine tasting.

  • If you’re looking for higher-end dining, we’ve loved The Madrona Restaurant, Valette, Single Thread Farms and Hazel Hill.
