A Condensed Guide to Exploring a Little Bit of Everything Savannah Has to Offer

Curator’s statement
Savannah is so beautiful with all of its Southern live oak draped in Spanish moss. It’s something you don’t find in many other parts of the world, including outside of the southern US. It’s a lively coastal town, but with its cobblestone streets, manicured parks and horse-drawn carriages, you never feel overly stimulated. Not only did my husband and I enjoy it, but my kids did as well — there’s something for the whole family!

Things to do in Savannah

Alligator-infested area on Oatland Island.
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist: Even if you’re not religious, you can’t deny the beauty found in this church. Just be aware of Mass times because you can’t view the church while Mass is in session.
Savannah riverboat sightseeing cruise: This is a great way to see both sides of the Savannah River while learning about some history of the area. You can bring your own snacks and drinks, but they also have a bar for drinks and some small eats.
Oatland Island Wildlife Center: 100 acres of maritime forest just outside of Savannah. Do not miss this when you’re visiting! It’s a nice escape away from the city and so cool to see, especially if you have littles! The highlight was looking for alligators in the swamps.
Explore River Street: You can find good eats, drinks and fun along the waterfront. There’s a nice sandpit where the kids can play while you sit and watch the cargo ships come in (such a sight to behold!)
Electric Moon Skytop Lounge + Moon Deck: Sitting atop the JW Marriott Hotel, this spot has a great open-air area where your kids can run around as you take in the river view and sip on a cocktail or munch on some good eats.
Starland Yard: Food, drink, music and entertainment AND it’s kid-friendly! This place is a no-brainer for parents to enjoy some fun while still allowing the kids to get out the wiggles.
Places to eat & drink in Savannah

Enjoying the view from Peregrin.
Collins Quarter at Forsyth: Beautiful presentations of colorful food and drink in the most dreamy location of Forsyth Park. There’s a downtown location, but what makes this spot special is that you can opt for outdoor seating underneath the southern live oak draped in Spanish moss.
Peregrin: Perched atop Perry Lane Hotel, come here for scenic views of the city. The lounge-style furniture can’t be beat. I can’t speak for the food as we didn’t eat there, but we enjoyed a yummy beverage and a beautiful sunny view of the city. A highlight of our trip!
Byrd Cookie Company: Any place with free samples throughout the store is a winner for me! Founded in 1924, this gourmet cookie shop is a crowd pleaser for adults and kids alike. No matter which flavor you choose, your tummy will thank you.
Gallery Espresso: Savannah’s oldest coffee shop, where you get the feel that you’re having coffee in your grandma’s house. It’s old, but familiar. It sparks comfort and joy and it’s the sort of place where you sip your coffee and sit for hours.
The Cotton Exchange Tavern: Situated along the Savannah River and what used to be a — you guessed it — cotton warehouse, this place just screams comfort food. Get the fried green tomatoes, but be careful, because they will burn off the roof of your mouth! Don’t be like me, and give yourself time to savor them.
Need to know
You can drink in the street downtown between River Street and Jones Street.
