Things to do in Tahiti

Beach on a cloudy day with mountains around it.
  • Snorkeling: There are many opportunities to snorkel in Tahiti and if you don’t want to book a snorkeling tour, most hotels provide snorkels you can use. There is an abundance of sea creatures here and you will be greeted with colorful fish, friendly reef sharks, and stingrays.

  • Kayak: If you want a laid-back adventure, kayaking is perfect for you. Enjoy the views of the island from the shore and the marine life underneath you. Grab a glass-bottomed kayak for an even better view.

  • Jet Ski: Book a jet-ski tour to explore the lagoon with speed. Fly through the wind as you take in the breathtaking sights.

  • Papeete: The capital city of French Polynesia, is a must to experience the rich Tahitian culture. Explore the Papeete Market for a variety of local fresh fruits and vegetables or beautiful clothing and artwork.

  • Shop for Tahitian pearls: These unique dark-colored gems have stunning rainbow undertones.

  • Beaches: Visit a black sand beach, like Lafayette or Point Venus for beautiful scenery.

  • Stay in an overwater bungalow: Dive into the water straight from your room or sit back and watch the sunset over the water.

  • Pā'ōfa'i Gardens: Take a walk through this waterfront garden filled with different trees, plants, and fish ponds. This garden also has a playground for kids as well as lawns if you want to have a picnic.

Day Trips

Take the ferry to neighboring island of Moorea for a day. You can book a tour in Moorea that will take you all over the island.

Places to eat & drink in Tahiti

Plate containing meat and mashed potatoes.
  • L'O à la bouche: Check-out this restaurant for French cuisine with Polynesian influence. This is my personal favorite and the staff and service here is wonderful.

  • Le Raina: Located in the Pā'ōfa'i Gardens, this restaurant is perfect for dinner and serves amazing sushi.

  • Le Lotus: This is an elegant restaurant part of the Intercontinental Resort and offers good views of the water. This is a great spot to watch the sunrise while you eat.

  • Urban Cafe: Perfect for breakfast and brunch, has an aesthetic outdoor seating area.

  • Blue Banana: Laid back restaurant overlooking the water.

  • Try Poisson Cru: This is a local dish consisting of raw fish and vegetables marinated in coconut milk and lime juice, offered in most restaurants in Tahiti.
