Fora’s Take
Dry Tortugas National Park is the most remote Park in the US Park System. It is a spectacular National Park to check off your bucket list. Stay in Key West, enjoy the laid back island life, indulge in ocean-themed culinary masterpieces and visit one of the most gorgeous historic forts on an island paradise that so few have been able to experience.

Day 1: Drive Through the Florida Keys
Drive along Highway 1 through the Florida Keys, over a 7-mile bridge to arrive in the world-famous Key West. Once checked into the hotel, pick up tickets to the Hemmingway house on the way to dinner at Blue Heaven before walking along the boardwalk and visiting the USCGC Ingham. One of the few remaining WWII vessels with a confirmed U-Boat sinking.
Day 2: Arrive at Garden Key
The choice is yours. Take either the Ferry or a Sea Plane to the amazing Dry Tortugas National Park and Fort Jefferson. The remote Garden Key is 70 miles into the Gulf of Mexico and is home to a 19th century fort and a protected wild life reserve. Take a tour of the fort, snorkel in cerulian blue waters and walk around the mote. Camper's stay on the island over night to view a night sky like nothing else.
Day 3: On the Water
Begin the day with a fishing trip, chartering a sport fishing boat to spend a great day out on the water reeling in catches like sailfish, marlin and mahi-mahi. Then see one of the best sunsets riding jet skis into the bay.
Day 4: Kayak at Sunrise and/or Sunset
The great thing about the Keys is you get a sunrise and a sunset over the ocean. Get an early start with an eco-kayaking tour through the mangroves as the sky above turns into a brilliant display of orange and pink before checking out and heading back to Miami.
Day 5: The Everglades
With a late evening flight out of Miami, the day can be spent exploring Everglades National Park. Visit the visitors center to see alligators, great barons and snapping turtles. Take a boat tour through the Ten Thousand Islands region and speed through the channels on an air boat.
Need to know
There are so many great tours and activities all throughout the Florida Keys. Extended trips can be just as fulfilling and exciting, or spread out to provide more time to simply sit and relax, enjoying a cocktail with a view.
