Scotland offers a captivating blend of breathtaking landscapes, from rugged coastlines to misty highlands, with rich culture and warm hospitality (seriously — the Scots are extremely welcoming and kind). Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh, is full of adventure, great food, drink and shopping, history and tradition. Whether you’re a Harry Potter fan or a medieval history buff, Edinburgh is for you.

I’ve visited all of the hotels listed below and can wholeheartedly endorse each one — depending on your travel style, there is absolutely something for everyone amongst these amazing properties.

The hotel restaurant, BABA, is fantastic — it showcases seasonal Scottish ingredients in its beautiful Mediterranean dishes. Located in the elegant New Town district, Intercontinental The George feels like a true nod to Scottish heritage. The hotel has been impeccably maintained and kept updated and has commanding views of Edinburgh Castle. The rooms are quite spacious here, and for the Harry Potter lovers, you can stay in the JK Rowling suite where she completed the final installment of the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The Balmoral also features a Michelin-starred restaurant, and a beautiful Scotch bar with a staff that is so helpful and welcoming and as far from elitist as you can get.

5. Gleneagles Townhouses

Located in the New Town overlooking St. Andrew’s Square, Gleneagles Townhouses offer a tranquil escape from the city life with 33 charming and elegant rooms. The main restaurant is one of the most beautifully designed spaces I’ve seen, and there’s a super luxe gym and wellness studio on site. It's also a private members' club, giving it a more intimate and exclusive feel. Follow your stay here with a few days in the Scottish countryside at the original world-renowned Gleneagles Hotel for a spectacular and unforgettable trip.

Beyond its boutique hotels, Edinburgh offers a wealth of activities for visitors to enjoy. Wander along the Royal Mile and explore the city's historic landmarks, including Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse (I can get you insider access before they open to the public), hike up to Arthur’s Seat, visit the National Museum of Scotland or take in an evening theatre performance.
