Things to do in Bali

For the adventurous spirit:

  • Hike Mount Batur: Just a short distance from Ubud, the Mount Batur hike is a must-do in Bali. It's a two-hour trek that is accessible for all skill levels and rewards you with breathtaking sunrise views. Tip: Check the weather forecast to make sure it’s a sunny day!

  • Take a surfing class in Seminyak: Try something different and experience the thrill of riding a wave with an introductory surfing lesson. Seminyak beach is ideal for beginners featuring gentle, manageable waves. By the end of the class, you’re likely to be standing on your board for a few seconds!

For a relaxing retreat:

  • Soak up the sun by an exquisite infinity pool: Experience tranquility at Jungle Fish Bali, where an infinity pool overlooks stunning jungle views. Indulge in a delicious menu that will delight your taste buds, making it a perfect spot for a soothing day.

  • Treat yourself to blissful massages: No trip to Bali is complete without a massage. Immerse yourself in luxury with a tropical bath or bubble bath adorned with flower petals for the ultimate relaxation. I recommend Jaens Spa for an unforgettable experience.

  • Enjoy a relaxing yoga class: Embrace the essence of Bali with a rejuvenating yoga class. I highly recommend the Alchemy Yoga and Meditation Center which offers fantastic sessions at their locations in Ubud and Badung.

Or simply get lost in the island’s beauty:

  • Swim at Bali's top beach: Padang Padang. If you’re seeking a stunning swimming spot, look no further than Padang Padang. While beaches in Seminyak and Canggu are great for surfing, they may not be the best for a refreshing dip. Padang Padang is arguably Bali’s most picturesque beach for swimming, and you definitely won't regret making the trip to Uluwatu.

  • Discover Canggu's best beach clubs: Canggu gives out a laid-back vibe that I absolutely love, thanks in part to its incredible beach clubs that transform into vibrant nightclubs. My top picks include The Lawn Canggu, Sol Rooftop and La Brisa Bali. Be sure to make reservations in advance.

Day trips:

  • Nusa Penida
Kling Kling Beach in Nusa Penida has quickly become one of Bali's most popular attractions, offering stunning views. I recommend visiting for just a day to avoid the crowds. Rent a motorcycle to explore the island, as taking a cab can lead to long waits at busy spots. Tip: Arrive early to Kling Kling Beach to beat the crowds!

  • Nusa Lembongan
Consider skipping Nusa Penida and heading to Lembongan instead. Accessible from Bali through Sanur Harbour, Lembongan features fewer crowds, a more intimate atmosphere and beautiful beaches. I spent a few nights exploring the island and took a day trip to Nusa Penida, just 15 minutes by speedboat. Don't miss La Bianca and The Deck restaurants - both offer exquisite sunset views and offer stunning beachside locations.

Places to eat & drink in Bali

Breakfast

  • Milk and Madu: A must-try Australian style brunch spot with multiple branches across Bali.

  • Copenhagen Canggu: Nordic breakfast with rye bread to die for! Opens at 6 am and usually has a queue so the earlier you go, the better.

  • Gooseberry Restaurant: Stunning outdoor restaurant with a villa-like decor. The soufflé pancakes and omelet are exquisite. Needs reservations.

Dinner

  • Kajin Japanese Contemporary Sushi: Small and intimate restaurant with exceptional sushi - some of the best I've ever had. Needs reservations.

  • Ku De Ta Bali: An upscale restaurant with stunning sunset views. Make sure to book a table on the rooftop.

  • Menega Cafe: As the sun sets, Jimbaran Beach transforms into a lively seafood haven, and Menega Cafe is a standout choice. Dine with your feet in the sand, listening to the sound of the waves while savoring fresh seafood.

Late night drinks and music

  • Motel Mexicola: A vibrant, colorful and trendy Mexican dining spot that turns into a fiesta after dark. Needs reservations.

  • La Favela: Whimsical eatery with Latin-infused dishes and live performances. Needs reservations.

  • Rock Bar: Located in the AYANA resort with stunning sea and sunset views serving refined dishes. Needs reservations.
