Things to do in Venice, Italy
Visit Doge’s Palace — a must-see to learn all about the history of Venice as well as some incredible art and artifacts. Get tickets for opening time at 9 am to get a quiet and leisurely walk through the museum without the crowds! Highly recommended getting the extra visiting exhibition tickets if available.
Right next door is San Marco’s Basilica. Take a quick look around to check out this historic church.
Next, head over to Teatro la Fenice - a breathtaking example of the splendor of the baroque period and its architecture. An opera house built in 1755, take a tour or see a show you will be amazed either way.
Take a break from all the walking at Vino Vino for some wine and lunch. Then take some time to shop!
In the afternoon, head over to Murano Glass Factory and take a tour. Watch a live glass-blowing demonstration and grab some to take home in the gift shop.
Check out the Peggy Guggenheim Collection - art museum. You can purchase tickets at arrival. Get there around opening time at 10 am to avoid crows. It is a small place and gets crowded.
Make a stop at the Rialto Market, which dates to 1097, a historic market place in Venice filled with excitement.
Jewish Museum of Venice is located in the old Jewish ghetto in Cannaregio and is filled with history. Afterwards, walk around the Cannaregio neighborhood and stop at Majer for a coffee and a quick bite. Then grab a drink at Bacaro Ae Bricoe or H2 NO.
A food tour is always a great option for any trip and a super fun way to see a city. A guide can give you expertise on all the spots and everything Venice has to offer.
Day trips
In the afternoon, opt for island hopping. Burano is the most popular with its rainbow houses, followed by Murano.
For an extra romantic evening, book a gastronomic cruise at Eolo.
Places to eat & drink in Venice, Italy
Vini da Arturo is a great place for lunch and dinner. It has been around since 1973. You can get the pork chop or the veal, and everything is delicious. If you don't know what to get, just ask. Very small place and won’t be crowded for lunch.
Al Covo - dinner, must make a reservation at least two months in advance. It will fill up. Ask for recommendations. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
Gelato Nico - great place to grab gelato in Dorsoduro, right on the water.
OKE Zattere - lunch & dinner, fantastic little pizza shop, and the best gluten-free pizza in Venice.
Bacaro del Gelato - specialty is nuts, get pistachio.
Trattoria al Gazzettino - traditional tavern-style, homey feeling, gives you a free appetizer, generous with drinks.
Venchi - famous Venice chocolate shop. More options than you can imagine. Incredible place for chocolate lovers, have great gelato as well.
Cantine del Vino - wine bar, small bites, local spot located in Dorsoduro.
Adagio - a lovely wine bar to stop in. Have a nice time, relax and try some great Italian wines.
