Things to do in Kennebunkport, Maine

Walk along the Marginal Way in Ogunquit — This scenic coast path offers stunning views of the ocean and rocky cliffs. It’s an easy, leisurely walk with plenty of benches to stop and take in the view. A perfect activity for those who love the sea breeze.

Shop/browse in the Dock Square area (there are many shops tucked throughout), which is where Kennebunkport and Kennebunk meet at the Kennebunk River — The charming heart of Kennebunkport, Dock Square, is full of local boutiques, galleries and specialty shops. Wander through the hidden gems tucked throughout the area, and don’t forget to pick up a locally made souvenir or two.

Walk up Ocean Avenue to Walker’s Point Overlook. Stop by the St. Anne’s church property to see the view from there. This is a must-do walk, offering breathtaking ocean views and a glimpse of the Bush family compound at Walker’s Point. It’s a quintessential Kennebunkport experience, and the coastline scenery is unbeatable.

Visit St. Anne’s Church — Stop by this historic stone church to admire the beautiful architecture and enjoy panoramic views of the ocean from the property. It’s a peaceful place to relax and take photos of the coastline.

Take an easy hike at East Point Bird Sanctuary in Biddeford Pool, which has great views of the ocean and a nearby lighthouse — This easy hike is perfect for nature lovers, offering stunning ocean views and a nearby lighthouse. The sanctuary is also a great spot for birdwatching, especially during migration seasons.

Take a Scenic Lobster Boat Tour — Explore the coastline by water on a lobster boat tour. You’ll learn about Maine’s lobster industry and might even get to see the crew pull up lobster traps. It’s a fun, educational way to experience Maine’s maritime culture.

Explore Goat Island Lighthouse — Accessible by boat or kayak, Goat Island Lighthouse is located off Cape Porpoise Harbor. It’s a charming spot to visit for those interested in local history and picturesque views of the harbor and lighthouse.

Go on a Kennebunkport Trolley Tour — This relaxing tour gives you a great overview of the area’s history, landmarks and scenic spots. It’s perfect for first-time visitors wanting to learn more about Kennebunkport in a fun, engaging way.

Visit the Seashore Trolley Museum — Just outside of town, this unique museum is dedicated to the history of public transportation. You can see vintage trolleys and even take a ride on a restored streetcar through the woods.

Relax at Goose Rocks Beach — For a quieter beach day, head to Goose Rocks Beach. It’s a serene stretch of sand with soft, white sand and calm waters, perfect for swimming, sunbathing or taking a leisurely walk along the shore.

Day trips

Visit Portland (about 45 minutes north), which has galleries, shops, breweries, etc. Standard Baking Company has excellent baked treats. We usually eat dinner at Scales restaurant on the waterfront. Everyone in my family raves about the mussels appetizer.

Places to eat & drink in Kennebunkport, Maine

Chez Rosa — A cozy French bistro with a relaxed vibe, known for its seasonal menu. The duck and French onion soup are standout dishes, and their wine list pairs beautifully with the meals. Perfect for a romantic night out.

Old Vines Wine Bar — A sophisticated yet laid-back spot for wine lovers. They offer an extensive selection of wines by the glass and bottle, as well as delicious small plates like charcuterie boards and flatbreads. It’s a great spot for an evening drink or light meal.

Mornings in Paris (for breakfast/coffee) - A charming French-inspired cafe, ideal for breakfast or a leisurely coffee break. Their croissants and pastries are freshly baked, and the lattes are top-notch. The intimate atmosphere makes it a perfect start to the day.

Cape Purpoise Kitchen (for take out, sandwiches, etc.) - Ideal for takeout picnic provisions, this gourmet shop has freshly made sandwiches, soups and local products. It’s a great stop for a quick, high-quality bite to take on your coastal adventures. Their lobster rolls are a local favorite!

Bradbury Brothers Market, across the street, is also good if you need snacks — Located just across the street from Cape Purpoise Kitchen, this quaint market is perfect for grabbing snacks, local beers or picnic supplies. It’s a good go-to for a casual bite or provisions for a day out.

Earth at Hidden Pond (pricey and must have a reservation but really good) - An upscale dining experience, Earth focuses on farm-to-table cuisine with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. Make a reservation in advance, as it’s popular and fills up quickly. The setting is stunning, with indoor-outdoor seating nestled in the woods.

The Clam Shack - A Kennebunkport classic, serving some of the best friend clams and lobster rolls in the area. It’s right by the bridge and ideal for a casual seafood meal. Expect lines in peak season, but the fresh, simply prepared seafood is worth the wait.

The Burleigh — Located in the Kennebunkport Inn, this stylish spot offers upscale pub fare and creative cocktails. Their indoor seating is especially nice in the warmer months, and their menu is a mix of seafood, burgers and comfort food with a twist.

Bandaloop - A locally loved, farm-to-table restaurant with a focus on organic ingredients and eclectic dishes. The menu is full of creative options, from fresh seafood to vegetarian and gluten-free meals. It’s tucked away and perfect for a relaxed dinner with a unique twist.

Rococo Ice Cream — For dessert, Rococo offers inventive, small-batch ice creams with unique flavors like goat cheese, blackberry Chambord and Maine whoopie pie. A must-visit for ice cream lovers looking for something a bit different after dinner.
