Day 1: Belly of the Dragon & Moqui Cave
Arrive in Kanab and check in to your hotel or vacation home. Lodging is a bit limited in the small town of Kanab but a personal favorite is the Canyons Boutique Hotel. Make sure to reserve a table at their restaurant Sego for dinner. Their modern take on traditional tapas will please even those with the pickiest taste buds.
After checking in, take a short drive to take an easy hike through the Belly of the Dragon. This is a great short hike and the tunnel is the best part. Hop in your car back towards Kanab and stop at Moqui Cave and take a short self guided tour. This is a great roadside attraction and you will get a bit of history on the family that has been running this privately owned cave and the Kanab area. If you’re up for more of a challenge head next door for a short but challenging hike to the Sand Cave. As the name suggests it is sandy here so make sure to bring shoes with a good grip. After enjoying the views head back to your room to get ready for dinner.
Day 2: Take an utv tour
This area is best seen with locals since many of its best attractions are off-road. There are a lot of tour companies in this area to choose from. Make sure to choose the one that best suits your interests. I recommend Roam Kanab for the great variety of tours they offer. I chose a utv tour of Peekaboo Slot Canyon, The Great Chamber and The Hoodoos. This five hour tour is a lot of fun and not too strenuous.
After a dusty day out in the utv head back to your hotel and clean up for dinner. The Wild Thyme Cafe serves up some tasty American cuisine in a casual, welcoming environment.
Day 3: Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park
Check out of your hotel and head to Sunny Creek Cafe for some breakfast before driving over to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. You can spend the day here sand boarding or sledding on the dunes, having a picnic or taking an atv tour through the dunes. Make sure to pack a lunch but if you forget there are some snacks at the visitor center.
After three full days in Kanab it’s time to head home (or on to your next adventure, I personally added Zion National Park after Kanab.)
