Curator’s statement
Austin, Texas, was the first trip we took with our 13 month-old and we loved how kid-friendly it was! It’s very walkable. There are so many kid-friendly tours, taco trucks everywhere, bicycles for rent and plenty of parks for stretching out those little legs. You have the option to be on the go, or take it slow and enjoy the scenery. Austin has room for it all and is adaptable to your needs, which is crucial when traveling with a toddler!

Day 1: Sites and local fare

Start with breakfast at Snooze, an A.M. eatery. Partake in a small-group bike tour. I like to do these types of exploratory tours the first day I’m at my location. I can see what this particular city has to offer and what I want to revisit during the rest of my stay. Walk over to the Picnic-Food Truck Park for a wide variety of quick, yummy eats. Take a short drive over to Mesmerize, where you and your babe will enjoy all the quirky art experiences and neon lights. Enjoy rooftop views for dinner at Zanzibar, where you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of an oasis. This spot was one of my favorites on the trip because not only were the views spectacular, but the vibe was so awesome! Another selling point was there was the option for lounge-y seating (no one wants a tall barstool for a one-year-old).
Day 2: Lake Travis

Enjoy a delicious breakfast or brunch at Moonshine Grill before exploring the historic district of Rainey Street, a quick 10 minute walk away. Take a 15 minute walk to get some photo ops in front of Tau Ceti, Austin’s tallest mural. Soak up some sun and/or take a dip in the Barton Creek Greenbelt, which boasts over 12 miles of stunning beauty. Next, take the 30 minute drive to The Oasis on Lake Travis (go for the views alone, it’s poorly rated for their food, but the views are breathtaking!)
Day 3: South Congress & kayaks

Enjoy a delicious breakfast at Magnolia Cafe before exploring South Congress. This is a hip and trendy neighborhood offering live music, shops and a view of the State Capitol. Next, have a picnic and get out the wiggles at Zilker Metropolitan Park. This is 350 acres of land with epic views of the Austin skyline before checking out the Greetings From Austin mural a couple miles away. Wrap up the evening with a downtown Austin sunset kayak tour as you watch 1.5 million bats fly out from underneath the Congress Avenue Bridge.
Need to know
Austin is very stroller-friendly. If your little one is a mover, a stroller may be your best (and easiest) way of getting around, except for the Greenbelt because of its gravely, dirt terrain.
