Hiking

Courthouse loop trail
Entering the Sedona from the South, you cannot miss Iconic Bell Rock. The Bell Rock Loop is an easy hike that encircles this frequently visited site, but to get a local view and really take in the beauty, I recommend Courthouse loop trail. Experience the magnificent rock formations with less traffic and feel the energy of nature and the vortexes all around you. You will be amazed by the contrast between the red rocks and the bright green vegetation on this trail. Depending on the time of year, you may even come across some reflecting pools along the way.

Airport Loop trail
In the center of it all, the Airport Loop trail starts higher on the mountain and gives you a spectacular view of the valley and the red rocks below. The backside of the trail demonstrates the various terrain that makes up this spectacular site. You can start or end at the airport vortex where you can take a moment to set an intention or just be inspired. Make sure you pop in the Mesa Grill to toast your accomplishment.

Devils Bridge
This is my go-to hike for first-timers. The largest natural sandstone arch in the area affords amazing views and the best photo opportunity. The hike starts with an easy stroll through the creosote bushes, juniper and pine trees and leads up the steep red sandstone rocks to the bridge.

Adventures

Helicopter tour

Why not see the Red Rocks, surrounding mesas and secluded canyons by Air? A professional pilot and tour guide will point out all the natural landmarks and take in all the incredible scenery with this spectacular tour. Make sure to stop at Mesa Grill for a drink or dinner afterward. Located at the airport Mesa Grill is one of the best secrets for view and excellent food and drinks.

Jeep Tour

Get out on an adventure with one of the many jeep tours in Sedona. Choose from tame to wild. Load into an open-air jeep and experience the scenery and the commentary from your driver/guide who is usually a local. Jeep tours not only get you out of town and into the red rocks but also provide an exhilarating experience clinging to rocks and concurring boulders that you never thought possible.

Need something more calm? Take a drive on the Red Rock Loop. This drive starts in West Sedona right off the main road. Many visits and pull off spots are perfect for a picnic or to watch the sunset.

Water to wine

Just outside Sedona in the adjacent Verde Valley have a day on the river with a water-to-wine tour. Start in your very own inflatable kayak and float down the Verde River. Land at one of the area's most charming vineyards and enjoy a tasting and snack on the beautiful back patio with the limestone cliffs and the sound of rushing water in the background.

Mountain Biking

Sedona is well known for its world-class mountain biking and even hosts a festival every spring. Get your adrenaline rush while taking in the views. Rides vary from intermediate to expert. Some favorites are Cathedral Rock Big loop, Aerie loop and for the experts Hangover loop (for experts). Make sure you stop at Oak Creek Brewery to celebrate your accomplishment. Pro tip: the original brewery is in the center of town off Coffee Pot Road where you will find the locals catching up after a good ride.

Places to eat & drink in Sedona

The Hudson

Tucked in an adorable hillside shopping area filled with art, gift shops and even some local wine tasting. This spot has a beautiful patio and excellent American cuisine. Stop in after a hike, have a romantic dinner on the patio or delight in the happy hour bites.

Mesa Grill

Located at the top of Airport road, this off-the-beaten-path gem is full of culinary delights. Hand-crafted cocktail with house-made infusions, fresh salads and tasty sandwiches, and tacos burst with flavor. You cannot go wrong with breakfast lunch or dinner. The patio and abundant windows share the view and the excitement of the departing and landing small aircraft at this fully functional airport.

Mariposa

This unique Latin-inspired menu paired with the unbeatable view of the Red Rock County is a must for dinner. Plan on your arrival just before sunset and watch the red rock show with a craft cocktail or a glass of wine from the extensive wine list. After Sunset move on to the gorgeous dining room and prepare to be delighted by the inspired menu curated by Chef Lisa Dahl, one the country's well known and respected female chefs.

Pump House Station

Every time I come to Sedona I make sure to hit this spot for breakfast or brunch. Excellent food, coffee and a magical setting keeps me coming back for more. Make sure to get a seat on the back patio surrounded by oak trees and perched near the rushing water of Oak Creek. This darling stone building has charm for days. You will feel like a local when you waste the morning sipping coffee and catching up with friends on one of the best patios in town.
