Curator’s statement

Welcome to Antwerp, a city that tastefully intertwines centuries-old heritage with contemporary flair. This city has it all - from world-class museums and exquisite architecture to sublime dining and shopping experiences. While Belgium is a great destination any time of year, late spring and summer in Antwerp are my favorite times to visit. Life in the city seems buzzy with excitement and ready to celebrate the return of sunny warm weather.

Day 1: Friday

The Brabo Statue / Fountain in front of Antwerp's city hall building, and lit up at night.

Begin your weekend at the charming and luxurious De Witte Lelie, a boutique hotel housed in a historic 17th-century building in the heart of Antwerp. The elegant suites are adorned with contemporary art and modern touches, ensuring your stay is both comfortable and sophisticated. Settle in, then enjoy a refreshing welcome drink to start your weekend off right.

Belgium is known for being home to some of the world’s best beer and there’s no shortage of selection. If you’re looking for alcohol-free alternatives, this is the city. Leffe, Maes, Stella Artois, and Jupiler have all put out masterful zero proof versions.

Day 2: Saturday Morning

A peak at Antwerp's skyline from across the river, and framed by natural leafs and foliage.

Start your day with a delectable breakfast at the hotel before setting out to explore the city. Your first stop is Rosier 41, a well-loved vintage store tucked away in Antwerp’s fashion district. This shop has been a hit with the locals for its meticulously curated selection of designer pieces. Whether you're hunting for that perfect vintage Chanel or an avant-garde piece from one of the Antwerp Six or iconic designer Martin Margiela, Rosier 41 has got you covered.

Day 2: Saturday Afternoon/Evening

A historic building in Grote Markt, Antwerp, Belgium, with a gold-colored horse statue on the top, on a sunny day.

After your shopping spree, it's time to indulge in some local cuisine. Head to Bourla, a popular lunch spot amongst locals. This grand café is housed in a beautiful 19th-century building and offers a tantalizing menu of Belgian and French cuisine. We recommend trying their steak tartare or moules frites, a classic Belgian dish of mussels and fries.

Post-lunch, it's time to soak up some culture. A visit to Axel Vervoordt's Kanaal is a must for design enthusiasts. This former distillery has been transformed into an impressive complex housing art galleries, design studios, and even an organic food market. Spend the afternoon admiring the minimalist design and the stunning art collections.

Saturday Evening:

As the evening draws in, make your way to The Jane, an extraordinary gastronomic spot set in a former chapel. Helmed by a Michelin-starred chef, The Jane offers a unique dining experience, pairing innovative dishes with an electric atmosphere. Remember to try their locally-sourced seafood dishes and exquisite cocktails.

Day 3: Sunday

A view of the Museum ann de Stroom (Museum by the River) in Antwerp Belgium, with the river, and other buildings in the background, at night.

Sunday Morning:

Wake up to a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and then head out to explore the cultural side of Antwerp. Your first stop is Rubenshuis, or the "Rubens House," once the home and studio of the famous painter Peter Paul Rubens. Marvel at the painter's personal art collection, his beautiful courtyard garden, and the grandiose baroque architecture.

Sunday Afternoon:

After a morning steeped in art, proceed to the DIVA museum. This unique museum is dedicated to the story of diamonds, a key aspect of Antwerp's heritage. Through interactive exhibits and stunning displays, you'll learn about the craftsmanship of diamond cutting, and the city’s centuries-old bond with this precious gem.

Sunday Evening:

Wrap up your weekend with a stroll along the Scheldt River. As the sun sets, the city lights reflect off of the water, creating a heady, magical atmosphere. Grab a Belgian waffle from a local vendor, find a cozy spot and watch the (very fashionable) world go by.
