My family visits South Florida every year since we have relatives in the area. We love soaking up the sun on the gorgeous beaches and discovering new spots to explore. While South Florida is huge, this guide focuses on Boca Raton and Pompano Beach. With their breathtaking beaches, sunny vibes and tons of fun activities, this part of Florida is perfect for family adventures. From lush parks to cool wildlife, there’s always something exciting for kids of all ages.

Things to do in South Florida
Boca Raton:
Mizner Park: Kids will love Mizner Park for its vibrant, playful atmosphere and interactive features. The colorful fountain is a splashy favorite, perfect for cooling off and having fun. The park regularly hosts family-friendly events like outdoor movies and live music, and offers a range of kid-friendly dining options.
Sugar Sand Park: This expansive park features the Children's Science Explorium, which offers interactive science exhibits. There is also an impressive Science Playground, which includes a splash pad, climbing structures and swings. The park also has nature trails and a carousel.
Gumbo Limbo Nature Center: This coastal and marine preserve is a great place for kids to learn about sea turtles, marine life and the local environment. It offers indoor and outdoor aquariums, a butterfly garden and a boardwalk with scenic views.
Red Reef Park: This oceanfront park is perfect for a beach day, with shallow waters ideal for young children to play in. There's also a nature center and picnic areas for family outings.
Patch Reef Park: This park offers a large playground, splash pad and sports facilities. It's an excellent place for children to run, play and cool off on hot days.
Spanish River Park: Known for its beautiful beach and well-maintained facilities. This park offers picnic areas, playgrounds and nature trails, making it a great spot for a family day out.
Boomers! Boca Raton: This entertainment center offers mini-golf, go-karts, an arcade and other attractions that are sure to entertain children of all ages.
Pompano Beach:
Pompano Beach Fisher Family Pier: This iconic spot is great for a family day out. There are opportunities for fishing, strolling and enjoying the ocean views. There's also a playground nearby for the kids.
Pompano Beach Parks: These parks feature playgrounds, sports fields and picnic areas, providing plenty of space for children to play and families to relax. Just south of the pier you will find Pompano Beach Park, which includes a playground, splash pad and green space.
Butterfly World: Located in nearby Coconut Creek, this enchanting place is home to thousands of butterflies, tropical birds and beautiful gardens. It's a magical experience for young children.
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park: Just a short drive away in Fort Lauderdale, this park offers a variety of outdoor activities, including nature trails, picnic areas and a freshwater lagoon. It's a great spot for kids to explore and enjoy nature.
Quiet Waters Park: Also nearby in Deerfield Beach, this park features a Splash Adventure water park, a marina with paddle boat rentals and a campground. Making it a perfect day trip for families with young children.
