Things to do in Byron Bay

People surfing in the ocean beyond a rocky shore.
  • Cape Byron Lighthouse: Take a walk to the lighthouse to see the town from the best view.

  • Fisherman’s Lookout: Walk along the main beach and up Fisherman’s Lookout to see the coast and watch the surfers. If you want to keep walking, hop on the Cape Byron Walking Track.

  • Take a surf lesson: Surfing in Byron is a right of passage when traveling in Australia. It’s a perfect spot for beginners as the waves are relatively flat. Be careful out there though — speaking from experience, I did injure myself by falling bum-first in the sand.

  • Bryon markets (only open on Sundays): Explore the vibrant markets full of handmade goodies from artists, designers and musicians. Grab some fun jewelry, clothes, art or get a tarot card reading.

  • Spa day: Byron Bay is the ultimate destination for relaxation. Treat yourself at the Ripple Bryon Bay Massage Day Spa for a massage or facial.

  • Yoga or pilates class: You’ll want to tap into the wellness culture by visiting BodyMindLife Byron Bay for a class. Jump in the saunas or ice baths afterwards.

  • Rent a boat: See Bryon Bay from the water with a full day trip or serene sunset cruise.
