Curator’s statement

The Amalfi Coast is easily one of the most popular destinations in Italy, and for good reason. With its colorful villages built on steep cliffs cascading down toward the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Amalfi Coast has some of the most picturesque stretches of coastline in all of Italy. Add in its historic domed churches, terraced vineyards, lemon groves, and mouth-watering cuisine, and the reasons to visit become endless. Whether you want to hike, shop, sail, swim, or if you would rather sunbathe with an Aperol Spritz in hand and watch the sun set, this is the place for you. Picking which seaside village to stay in may seem daunting, as each village has its own unique flair. Don't worry, I am here to help you navigate and experience all that the Amalfi Coast has to offer!

Things to do in Amalfi Coast

A woman hiking on a mountain with ocean down.

Explore the town of Amalfi

  • Visit the Amalfi Cathedral.

  • Enjoy the freshest lemon sorbet you will ever have.

  • Grab an Aperol Spritz and people-watch.

Take a boat tour to see the coastal towns from a different perspective

  • Can be a private or shared experience.

  • Most cruises offer fresh fruit and drinks.

  • Have the chance to swim in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Visit Ravello

  • Catch a taxi (or local SIta bus if you're feeling adventurous) and head up to explore the most enchanting town.

  • Stroll through the Gardens at Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo.

  • Find a cafe and enjoy the best Lemon Cake you will ever have.

Hike the Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods)

  • Take the first local bus from Amalfi to Bomerano.

  • Stop at a cafe and grab yourself a chocolate croissant before you start the hike. Good idea to use the restroom too, as there are no stops on the hike until you arrive in Nocelle.

  • The main hike is about 4 miles with endless views of the sea and coastal villages below.

  • Grab yourself an Italian aperitif when you arrive in Nocelle to celebrate completing the hike.

  • If the 2 or 3 hour hike wasn't enough activity for you, you can choose to continue your hike with 1,700 steps down to Positano (in my opinion, this was harder than the entire hike!). OR you can catch the local Sita bus from Nocelle to Positano.

Visit Positano

  • Rent a lounge chair and umbrella at Spaggia Grande (~€30 for daily rental)

  • Relax and enjoy the full-service amenities the beach clubs have to offer

  • Shop till you drop

  • Enjoy a sunset aperitivo at Aldo's Cocktail Bar

  • Dance the night away and Music on the Rocks

  • Rent a Scooter and explore the Coast as the locals do

Day Trips

Visit Pompeii and hike up Mt Vesuvius. The drive to Pompeii takes less than an hour from Amalfi. During this time, the tour guide provides detailed information on the history of both Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. The tour we recently booked took about half a day with visits to both historical sites and a lunch in between. We arrived back in town just in time to enjoy a sunset dinner overlooking the beach at Le Arcate.

Places to eat & drink in Amalfi Coast

Outdoor sitting of a restaurant near sea shore.
  • Le Arcate- Seaside dining in the town of Atrani.

  • De Gemma- Family-owned restaurant in Amalfi. Can choose to dine in their main dining space, which is more formal, or in a more intimate space located within their wine cellar.

  • Ristorante Sigilgaida- Superb views from the Ravello vantage point. Located within Hotel Rufolo. Get the lemon cake; you won't regret it.

  • Francos Bar- An elegant bar in Positano with delicious aperitifs and cocktails, and a jaw-dropping view to go with it.
