Curator’s statement

Belize is a beautiful destination filled with warm hospitality, breathtaking views and delicious food. San Pedro is a perfect first stop, with plenty of parks, shopping and world-class snorkeling. Venturing over to Caye Caulker provides a more serene experience, with a laid back atmosphere but still lots to explore.

Things to do in Belize

A view of a sandy road with two four-wheelers carrying people driving forward. There is a hotel, palm trees and a beautiful blue body of water surrounding them.
  • Snorkel or dive at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley: Explore coral reefs and swim alongside nurse sharks and rays in protected waters.

  • Walk down "Front Street" for local shopping and dining: Discover shops, eateries and bars along San Pedro's main street.

  • Visit the Belize Chocolate Company: Indulge your sweet tooth and learn about Belize's cacao heritage.

  • Take a sunset sailing tour: As dreamy as it sounds!

  • Explore the Secret Beach: Escape the crowds and enjoy the shallow turquoise waters.

  • Try water sports at Ambergris Caye: Kayaking, paddle-boarding or kiteboarding are all available!

  • Take a guided fishing excursion: Work with a local expert to reel in bonefish, tarpon and snapper.

  • Experience Belizean cuisine at local eateries or beachside grills.

Places to eat & drink in Belize

A view of tropical plants and palm trees in the forefront, with beach chairs positioned on the sandy beach while an orange sun sets over the water in the distance.

Breakfast:

  • Fry Jacks: Fluffy, deep-fried dough served with beans, eggs and cheese.

  • Johnny Cakes: Dense, savory bread made with flour, baking powder, salt and sometimes, coconut milk.

  • Belizean Breakfast Burrito: Coming from California I had high expectations for this one, and it did not disappoint!

Lunch:

  • Rice and Beans: A staple dish in Belize, consisting of rice and red kidney beans cooked in coconut milk and flavored with garlic, onions and various spices.

  • Conch Ceviche: A refreshing seafood dish made with diced conch marinated in lime juice, mixed with onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, cilantro and habanero peppers.

  • Garnaches: Corn tortillas topped with refried beans, shredded cabbage, cheese and a choice of protein.

Dinner:

  • Grilled Lobster with Garlic Butter: Need I say more?

  • Jerk Chicken with Coconut Rice and Plantains: My personal favorite Caribbean dish (second only to the aforementioned fry jacks).

  • Panades with Habanero Salsa: Crispy corn tortillas stuffed with savory fillings like fish or beans.
