Curator’s statement
Costa Rica is an ideal destination for combining luxury amenities with outdoor activities and adventure. Because it is a small country, you can explore several distinct regions in only a 4-day itinerary. I fell in love with Costa Rica and developed this compact itinerary based on my recent travel experiences in Costa Rica.

Day 1: Arriving in Guanacaste
Because you only have 4 days, time is of the essence. So, you'll want to arrive at Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia which is centrally located to the lodging and activities I have planned.
Driving in Costa Rica can be challenging because of poor road conditions in some areas, so I recommend booking a private transfer to your chosen resort rather than renting a car. I highly recommend staying on or near the Papagayo Peninsula in Guanacaste given its excellent beaches, top-quality resort accommodations and proximity to activities and transportation.
Upon arrival, start soaking in the Pura Vida by enjoying the many water sports available on Papagayo, like paddle-boarding, kayaking and snorkeling.
Day 2: Hiking in Arenal
On Day 2 of your 4 day Costa Rica itinerary, embark on a full day of adventure with a guided excursion to Arenal. As your guide transports you from your resort, you will note the scenery changing from the drier, hotter climate of Guanacaste to the lush rain forest of Costa Rica's interior. Some of the world's best ziplining awaits you here.
Hiking, rappelling and soaking in mineral hot springs are excellent ways to round out your day trip. As your guide returns you to your resort, you can look forward to dinner while you watch the sun set. I recommend Pesce at the Four Seasons Resort for its delicious Italian cuisine and gorgeous views.
Day 3: Rincón Waterfalls
Rincón de la Vieja National Park is another must-do for travelers looking to enjoy outdoor activities in Costa Rica. This ecosystem differs from Arenal in that it is northern dry forest. Guided hiking is available to discover hidden waterfalls along jungle trails.
Natural swimming pools make excellent rest stops to cool off. You can combine hiking with excellent horseback riding here as well. I again recommend arranging for transportation and a professional guide for your trip to Rincón.
Day 4: Beach Time
To conclude your 4 day Costa Rica itinerary, set aside the last day for pure Pura Vida relaxation at one of the gorgeous beaches of the Papagayo Peninsula. With several top resorts with excellent beach access, you won't have to go far. I recommend a catamaran tour, either in the morning to see wildlife like dolphins and turtles or in the evening to experience a beautiful sunset from the water.
If land-based activities are of interest, tennis and golf facilities including an 18-hold Arnold Palmer-designed course are nearby. You can't leave Costa Rica without enjoying local seafood. I recommend Ostra for dinner tonight to cap off your whirlwind vacation.
Day 5: Late Check-Out
As many flights depart for the United States in early afternoon, take advantage of late checkout privileges and enjoy a leisurely breakfast. Many of the partner hotels I work with offer my clients late checkout as a perk, and this is a great destination to take advantage of this.
Convenient private transfers are available to efficiently transport you to Liberia airport for your trip home.
