Curator’s statement
There is something special about the proximity of so many places from New York City - not to mention the ease and accessibility to get to these places thanks to public transportation. I am constantly brainstorming places for my next weekend getaway from the city and wanted to share three of my favorites with you!

Things to do
Cape May | New Jersey
Cape May, New Jersey is a 3-hour drive or a 4 - 5 hour train and bus from New York City depending on traffic, and you will be greeted by Victorian houses and the Atlantic ocean upon arrival. There is a lot of historic architecture, especially along the Washington Street Mall, which is lined with sweet shops like Cape May Peanut Butter Co., antique and boutique shops and restaurants. During the day, I recommend a bike ride through Cape May Point State Park to see the famous Cape May Lighthouse, spending the day at the beach or venturing to one of the local breweries such as Cape May Brewing Co.. At night, you can find a local spot with live music or enjoy dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants for sunset – which can’t be missed.
Hudson | New York
A quick 2-hour train ride away from New York City, Hudson combines the charm of a small town with a vibrant artistic and cultural scene. Located along the Hudson River in upstate New York, this historic city has a bustling day and night atmosphere. All along Warren Street you can find art galleries, boutiques and antique shops and a variety of culinary experiences from farm-to-table restaurants, cozy cafes, local breweries to trendy bars. There’s also a local florist shop called Flowerkraut that’s tucked away, but worth discovering – think flowers, plants, candles, gifts and more! Hudon is completely walkable – even from the train station – and not to forget the surrounding opportunities for hiking, biking and scenic walks along the riverfront parks such as Henry Hudson and the Promenade.
Greenport | Long Island
Greenport is a 2.5 hour car ride away or a 3 - 3.5 hour train ride on the LIRR from New York City. Once you’ve arrived it’s extremely walkable and there are some car services available if needed. This quaint, historical, and coastal village is charming in every way, with streets filled with shops, restaurants, and art galleries. You can spend the day by the water of Peconic Bay, walk along Front Street and Main Road and visit a local brewery or winery. I’ve put together a full guide for Greenport wineries, so please reach out if you’d like to hear more! If you have enough time to take a day trip to Shelter Island, I definitely recommend it and you can get there easily by taking the North Ferry.
