Things to do in Rome

  • Colosseum and Roman Forum: Step back in time at these iconic ruins, where ancient gladiators once fought and emperors ruled. Guided tours are a great way to uncover fascinating stories and details.

  • Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel: Housing one of the most important art collections in the world, the Vatican Museums feature masterpieces from Raphael, Leonardo and Michelangelo. The Sistine Chapel’s ceiling is a must-see!

  • Trevi Fountain: Toss a coin, make a wish and enjoy the bustling atmosphere. Go early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid larger crowds!

  • Piazza Navona: One of Rome’s most famous squares, this lively spot is home to the stunning Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini. Grab a coffee (or a Spritz!), enjoy street performers and admire the view.

  • Galleria Borghese & Villa Borghese Gardens: Marvel at the stunning paintings, sculptures and intricate rooms. Enjoy a peaceful stroll through the gardens and make your way to the viewpoint on Pincian Hill.

  • Trastevere: Wander the narrow, cobblestone streets of this charming neighborhood that houses some mouth-watering restaurants.

Places to eat & drink in Rome

Near the Colosseum and Roman Forum

  • Roscioli: A deli, wine bar (with an extensive wine list!) and restaurant all in one. You can't miss out on their incredible carbonara.

  • Ristorante Aroma: Offers Michelin-starred dining with a front-row seat to the Colosseum. A splurge-worthy experience for a special night. Treat yourself!

Near the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel

  • Pizzarium Bonci - No ordinary pizza place! Bonci's gourmet toppings and focaccia-like crust make this a must-try.

Near the Trevi Fountain

  • Armando al Pantheon: Family-owned and full of charm, this trattoria serves up Roman classics that feel like a warm hug.

  • Il Gelato di San Crispino: Creamy, artisanal gelato with flavors that change with the seasons! An absolute must after a long day of site-seeing.

Near Piazza Navona

  • Sant’Eustachio Il Caffè: Start your day the Roman way with a perfect espresso. Their signature blend is famous for a reason!

Near Villa Borghese and Galleria Borghese

  • Il Margutta RistorArte: For my vegetarians out there! Il Margutta RistorArte takes vegetarian cuisine to the next level with creative dishes and an artistic atmosphere.

Near Trastevere

  • Trattoria Da Enzo al 29: Classic Roman comfort food served with heart. Order the fried artichokes and thank me later. Their carbonara is also exceptional, and the rustic charm will make you feel like a true local.

  • Taverna Trilussa: Come hungry! The signature pastas, served directly in the pan, are rich, indulgent, and unforgettable.

Need to know

Try the Carbonara: Rome is the birthplace of this creamy, egg-based pasta. For an authentic experience, head to Roscioli or Da Enzo al 29.

Gelato Etiquette: Choose artisanal gelato for the best flavors — avoid places with mounds of brightly colored gelato. Il Gelato di San Crispino is a great choice.

Book Dining Reservations: Popular restaurants, like Armando al Pantheon and Ristorante Aroma, often require reservations. Plan ahead to secure a table.

Sip an Aperitivo: Enjoy a pre-dinner drink, like an Aperol Spritz, at a local bar. Many spots in Trastevere and Piazza Navona offer great aperitivo deals.

Venture Beyond the Tourist Traps: Some of the best meals are found in family-run trattorias just off the beaten path. Don’t hesitate to explore!
