Curator’s statement

I had been wanting to go to Nevis for years. As a loyalist to Anguilla, it took me a while to finally pull the trigger and plan my trip to Nevis. I am so glad I did! The best part about Nevis is that it is still an island that is one of those IYKYK type of places. When someone first thinks of a Caribbean vacation, Nevis might not be the first island to come to mind. There are no big airports, and you have to arrive by boat from St. Kitts. It is green and lush, and the Nevis Peak volcano is viewable from every part of the island. There are hills and valleys, and Nevis has so much to offer. I think the one thing that made the deepest impression on me was the people. I have never met kinder, more lovely people than those who reside in Nevis. They talk to you and are really interested in what you have to say. They want to learn about you and want you to learn about them. Nevis has found a special place in my heart, right next to Anguilla. In fact, Anguilla used to be a part of St. Kitts & Nevis until it became independent years ago. Nevis is relaxed, quiet, beautiful and lush, and has a food scene that pretty much shocked me. One restaurant was nicer than the other and, quite frankly, I can't wait to go back.

Things to do in Nevis

pathway-through-greenery-nevis-travel-guide

Nevis is mostly about relaxing. But that doesn't mean you can't find activities if you want them. There are hikes to the waterfalls in the mountains of the Nevis peak. You can also hike to the top of the volcano if you so desire. There are tennis courts and pickleball. In fact, the Four Seasons Nevis offers three surfaces for tennis (grass, clay or hard surfaces similar to the ones you see in the US). You can swim, snorkel or jet-ski. You can spend a day at the spa or at a beach bar. It is your choice. The island is romantic but chill, formal yet relaxed and a friendly escape for families or couples.

Places to eat & drink in Nevis

Each night we chose a new dining destination. Each night I said that destination was my favorite one. Every restaurant we visited had an extensive wine list and the freshest seafood and vegetables grown on the island. Literally farm-to-table in the truest sense. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Mangos is a beautiful restaurant at the Four Seasons and sits right on the beach. You can see fish swimming right next to you as you dine on amazing Caribbean dishes and specialty cocktails.

  • Golden Rock is amazing! It sits on an old sugar plantation and is a very small hotel as well. The food was fabulous and we spent about two hours chatting with the lovely bartender while sipping drinks in the bar inside an old sugar mill.

  • Drift is a small, beautifully decorated restaurant on the beach. The sunset view will take your breath away. Each table is set perfectly and the decor is serene and lovely. The staff were so kind and the food so good that I almost insisted on going twice but decided I should see more of what Nevis had to offer. There is also an art gallery on the property, and most of the art you see in the dining room is also for sale.

  • Montpelier- all I can say is wow! I had no idea what to expect because the concierge at the Four Seasons urged us to go there for our anniversary. It sits on an old sugar plantation and is another small hotel on the island. It was perfection. Attention to detail with both the decor and the food was impressive. There are a few places to dine at Montpelier and they all look amazing, but when you request Mill Privee, you dine with just. A few others in a 300-year-old sugar mill lit by candles.

Need to know

Four Seasons Nevis does it right!!! They meet you at the airport in St Kitts and you board their boat to transfer directly to the Four Seasons hotel. When you arrive at the long pier that jets into the Caribbean, a gracious, smiling staff member is there to greet you and take you directly to your room for check in. You cannot help but be in a great mood from the moment you arrive. With a cocktail in hand and a cool towel, you immediately know this is going to be a. great vacation!
